July 3rd. 7pm. Deportivo Saprissa (Costa Rica.) Season ticket members have a ticket and parking pass as "Special Game A." Yeah. They're INSANE.
I just went to a Saprissa game in March. It was a lot of fun. I am a fan of the Purple Monster. I hate to say but I kind of like this game.
You're actually probably right. This is what the FO is promoting too. But I thought they thought the stadium was not in the urban core? 1001884975250264069 is not a valid tweet id
So I get that we normally have a friendly and blah, blah, blah, but this is coming at a bad time. Here's how our schedule looks for June and some change: June 2 - vs. Toronto June 6 - vs. Chicago (LHUSOC Round 4) June 9 - vs. NYRB June 13 - vs. Atlanta June 16/17/20 - LHUSOC Round of 16 June 23 - @ LAFC June 30 - vs. RSL July 3 - vs. Saprissa (Friendly) July 7 - @ LAG That's nine matches (or eight if we bow out of the LHUSOC) in 36 days. Nutty.
Nobodies going to show up for this. Especially if Columbus' fireworks are that night. Fans aren't going to stay afterwards to watch the city fireworks. They're just going to actually go downtown and watch them instead of going to a random Crew game against some team they've never heard of. And they're advertising it like "come for the fireworks!" What a joke. Saprissa is an interesting opponent. I would be happy about it if it wasnt the only friendly we were playing and we still had a bigger name coming. None of it really matters though because Im sure friendlies aren't in the budget this year and frankly the timing of it makes it pointless. Even our bench guys and reserves are going to already get minutes with the Open Cup.
I haven't watched Red White and Boom from the upper deck but remember a year when we had a match the same night as the suburban fireworks. We could see Worthington's, Gahanna's, Westerville's, Reynoldsburg's, and a couple of others in the distance. Parking and driving downtown are a nightmare during RWB so seeing a soccer match and the fireworks from a distance isn't a bad deal.
I've actually watched Red White and Boom from the Crew lot for the last few years. You can see them nicely, the parking lot is a nice place to trow a frisbee, kick a ball or whatever before hand. I've brought the kids' bikes the past 2 years and they've enjoyed riding around the lot with LED lights in their spokes. There are maybe 20 or 30 cars around but plenty of space. The fireworks are visible but don't pack any punch, that's what the Upper Arlington show is for on the 4th, though. So, this game will be low attended but it will put 20 times as many cars in the lot, ruining my usual plan. Hooray for Soccer! That is a brutal run of games every 3 or 4 days for an entire month +. Wow.
Now...if the tickets were $10 and not associated with PSV, lack of marketing, dead mice and ceilings falling down, 20x more cars in the lot could be a good thing.
My ex and I were there. Had lots of cool on-field stuff for kids before hand but personally felt it was way too far away from RW&B to enjoy anything.
Now if we could celebrate Dong Arbers induction into the HoF, those would be fireworks I would pay to see
...and Mrs KG reminded me last night that we got kicked out of the upper deck later by security.... Politely--but kicked out nevertheless.
