question, maybe somebody out there will know. is the crew currently in the process of making some changes to CCS? i happened upon some architectural drawings today that looked as if they were adding a new locker room under the south end of the stadium <just north of the kicker plaza> and it also appeared as though they are also renovating the huntington club. anyone know anything about this? i had not heard anything in the press and figured i might have missed it or something...
i know, i was hoping for a roof when i saw the drawings as well but nope... i just wondering if anyone knew anything about this and the reason for the new locker room.
Sure would be nice if we'd take the bleachers out of sections 136-138 and scatter a few crush barriers around in there...
I emailed someone (cant remember who, but it was the person who it made sense to send to. I got the link off the Crew website) last week about possible expansion plans and/or images. Still haven't gotten a reply, but this will be the first place i come IF I get a reply. I sure some of you have tried this in the past??
The plans are not new. It was talked about prior to last season, but then the talk just died. At that time I was told they wanted the lockerrooms under the south end in order to accomodate other events such as HS football. They were also talking about building a new press box in the northwest end (corner) and making the current press box available to be rented out to groups. Walt
1) Wreck Room becomes Huntington Club. HC has TV's, private restrooms, climate control, concierge, and all the essential schniznidt. This -may- be a place to watch Crew away games, as the idea's been passed around the office. 2) Open Air loges get roofs and become closed Suites. 3) Donato's Pizza gets a pizzaria on the SE(i think) corner of the stadium. I think this will be as opposed to selling at the concession stands(think mcdonald's kiosk-ish)... I'm imaginging it as a kiosk, don't know for sure how they'll do it. 4) I've heard they'll move the press box as well.
those two things listed above were included on the plans i saw yesterday, got a better look at them today and was able to figure out what was going on...as well as the locker room under the south stands which is one large locker room that has a 'folding' wall that seperates it in to two different lockers rooms if needed.
1) now 2) over the course of a few seasons 3) for the 2003 season 4) don't know when I've also heard about locker rooms under the south stands, don't know when that's happening.. don't know about TVs for concession areas as well... those may go in this season, don't know for sure.
to be honest, i am going to have to answer 4 but the drawings were at our office for the person who is the rep for the 'foldable' wall in-between the locker rooms...and he usually get his drawings once the project has been bid and a contractor has been selected, so my assumption is that the project has be awarded to a contractor and is ready for construction. i should actually see the rep tomorrow morning and i will ask him what the construction schedule looks like for the project.
Yeah, I've heard they'll do it. Still, I wish they'd add some tvs to the lower concession stands as well as the south terrace.
fidlerre, if they are going to close the boxes, are they going to put plumming in as well Or do the plans just call for glass wall and roofs to be put up?
i talked to the guy this morning. the locker rooms under the south stand: those are included in the drawings but he is not sure whether they are actually going to be done before the season starts or if they are going to be done over the summer. it was not up for bid so he is assuming they have not decided when to do it and are still figuring that out. wreck room becoming huntington club: that is something else that has the drawings all ready to go they are just waiting for huntington to give it the go-ahead and then progress will begin. open air loges get roofs and become closed suites: this is what he put a bid on and this is what is getting done. the catch is there are only a few of the boxes, he said he thinks it is only 3 of them, that are becoming enclosed at this point with the idea to close them all eventually. no word on any plumbing as he doesnt get the MEP drawings for the project hope that clears up some of the stuff...
Excellent news, I really couldnt understand how someone justified paying for the "luxery boxes". Hopefully they'll be 10x nicer now... Will this Huntington club be like a nice bar setting? It would be nice to have a pub in-stadium.... Someone took notes from the Charleston stadium, eh?
Thanks for the info. It kind of sounds like the Crew are trying to keep CCS up to date with the HDC in LA. That's good because with Dallas and Metros close to getting their own stadiums maybe it forces the Crew to put a roof up and put some bricks or something up over the outside.
They were "open air suites". Now, they're becoming more of a "luxury box". More than likely, it will have a very nice bar. However, it will be closed unless you have a pass to get in. I'd imagine there'll be people at the door checking passes. Maybe even handstamps for re-entry into the Club. Since it is a private club, i'd imagine it will be much harder (if not impossible) to get in. Whereas, the past few years, entry into the Stadium Club has been very easy. If you've ever been to the Schottenstein Center or Ohio Stadium, the one at CCS will probably be similar to that. But, before you get your hopes down, there have been rumors that the CCS Huntington Club may be useable for the fans for road game viewing parties. As far as the roof goes, i'd imagine they're still sticking to plan. Consistently sell out CCS as it is, expand to maximum (30-35K), then add a roof. Obviously, it's hard to add more seating if there's a roof.
I thought the Wreck room was the place where the bar and the video games are between the upper and lower reserved stands in the corner. Is that right or is the wreck room the tent? If it is the area I described, I hope they don't make the bar area reserved. That's where I liked to go with about 20-30min to go till game time and get a few Rum and Cokes and that is the only place to get a decent beer in the whole stadium.
The Wreck Room was the place near where the fire fans hang out when they come. Used to have video games and all that. It'll be Huntington Club. Stadium Club, that's the white tent on the west side of the stadium.
Does anyone know where or have pictures (renderings) of Crew Stadium fully expanded with a roof and all the rest of the goodies?
it has been discussed but i have never seen any such pictures/renderings of CCS. way back in the day, when the city proposed a SSS and a hockey area downtown, the stadium for that proposal had a roof but the whole thing was shot down by the voters thanks to some nasty fighting during the voting process...
IIRC, it was an oval shape like some of the european stadiums, and not a "box" shape like CCS. Anyone remember the pics of the dublin stadium? I dimly remember it looking multi-tiered, oval shaped, like a mini-bernabeu. and i think i know what that stadium announcement is about...
