Farsi should start the more I think about it, with Nancy telling him to play cautiously, not getting too far forward. Bouanga is a handful, to put it mildly.
Just means he has the option to retire when he wants . He isn’t likely to ever play for another team. He wanted to come here for family reasons.
And I quote: “I would rather have had in goal a fourteen-year-old Patrick Schulte in 2015 than Steve Clark…. You better believe that still holds true.”
That’s great hope he sticks to it and doesn’t change his mind. But it’s definitely a possibility from anyone his age to consider to hang it up after a Championship.
That doesn’t surprise me. He’ll see out this contract and be done. Smart timing, Nancy will probably be leaving around that same time as well.
I've re-watched the GW goal about a 100 times now. While it's always fun to play Internet coach and referee I am probably just going to enjoy the win, trust Nancy and the players with next week, and enjoy MLS Cup. And also congratulate FCC on an excellent season and turn around from the wooden spoon days. They'll be second guessing every on/off field decision from yesterday and what went wrong but if they aren't proud of their team, well ... welcome to hell ...
The game winning goal was magical. I'm not sure if cucho did something extra to lure Roman way over to the near post or if Roman was tired and scrambled. So smart to instead of heading a high shot that Roman saved all game and the last away match (see the save of the year), he headed it down and across goal. Even if CR17 wouldn't have gotten there, good chance a tired back line would have put it in.
Yeah, he was waving a big flag on the field that he had borrowed from one of the fans in the stands. He looked extremely happy, as did pretty much every one of the seemingly one hundred Crew players and staff members out there celebrating.
Agreed. I've got some great memories of tailgating with some Cincy fans in Columbus during the STC movement, and I am thrilled to have the big in-state rival. I would also love it if the road to the Cup routinely had to come through Ohio. I am also not one who does much taunting of opposing fan bases. HOWEVER, some of their loudest and most obnoxious fans have certainly been receiving attention in the wake of this game. And so far, the funniest thing I have seen on social media in response is this:

As much as I love seeing how much it means to these guys, I have to admit that I'm a little unnerved by it. There's a concern that maybe they've emptied the emotional tank somewhat, along with two straight 120-minute games.
Fair point. I guess the hope (expectation?) is that the boost they have seen all season by playing at home shows up one more time on Saturday. Based on how last night's game played out ... I don't think the LDC crowd will get nervous the way the FCC fans did. FCC players had to feel the crowd's growing sense of panic in the second half.
The 120 minutes for 2 games concerns me, but I liked what Nancy said in the press conference after the game. There's some studies that show rewards after accomplishing goals help create a feedback loop motivating humans. Also see baseball as they celebrate every series win with champagne.
Thought I'd add this link.... Story about our game. In Kicker!! With a match report. https://www.kicker.de/cincinnati-gegen-columbus-2023-mls-playoffs-4897683/spielbericht
Current forecast for Saturday is a significant rain front coming through overnight Friday night into Saturday with steady rain until Monday morning. Temps are solid with a projected 52 degrees for kickoff. Hopefully the rain front slows down over the next few days and holds out.
I've always had mixed feelings about that. Most of me thinks its lame. You haven't really won anything yet. But I think it depends on the group, really. Some personalities benefit from that moment of celebration, while some would prefer to keep it all business. In this case? Given the way everything went down last night, I have zero problem with having a party afterward. Or enjoying the trophy ceremony. Winning that match, in that stadium, against that team, in that manner is worthy of celebration.
Do they have Chris Doran's calls of the goals last night tucked away anywhere? Haven't been able to find them.
Sports: "We won a playoff series! Let's celebrate!" Hockey: "We won a series, you say? Eh, that's cool, we guess. Either way isn't as bad as trophies being awarded to the owner of the winning team. Oh, so it wasn't the 75-year-old billionaire out on the practice field sweating and puking his way back from injury? But then again, Bob Kraft knows all about happy endings, amirite?
