I think it has come to the point where the Crew need a major moral boost to get things turned around. So I'm going to issue a challenge to all you loyal Crew fans out there, in particular, those in supporter groups. My challenge is this: At our next home game, I want to see the most faithful, supportive, loyal, moral-lifting actions as humanly possible. I want to get away from some of the nonsense songs/chants/cheers, and go from the heart. I want some people to get of their arses and make some banners. I made a Duncan one already, but he won't be there for the next home game, I believe. I want to print off an uplifting letter or copy of some of the songs, and hand them to the players. I want us to be vocal, I want us to be loud, and I want it to be uplifting and not brow-beating. Some of you have seen this already, but I'm going to include a remake of Liverpool's "You'll Never Walk Alone" that I wrote. I think this would be a very fitting song to begin each half with, followed by the "When the Crew go Marching In". The tough part of this, is I doubt many of you know the tune. So I'm going to burn a couple versions of it onto a CD, bring it to the tailgate, and I want to see my V-Army boys have the stones to fvckin practice this together before the game. You wanna be a supporter group? You wanna prove that we're loyal and the best damn fans in the country? Well lets start acting like it. If you think what I've said is wrong, you better get off the bottle for an hour and think really hard before you start bringing others down around you. The Song: When you walk past the rock Hold your head up high And don't be afraid of the foe At the end of the road Are your loyal fans, And know the pride that it brings Walk on through New York Walk on through The Fire Though these teams may be in our way Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart And you'll never walk alone You'll never walk alone, ooh You never walk a-lone. Remember now, days ago When we held it high The U S Open Cup Wear the gold and the black As a badge today O'er your hearts forever more til you die Walk on through United Walk on through New England Though these teams may be in our way Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart And you'll never walk alone You'll never walk alone, ooh You never walk a-lone.
Additionally, I want to say that we can modify the song as we think might sound best, but I think this is a very uplifting and supportive version, with a lot of meaning behind it. This would really lift the spirits of the boys. If this is a go, then I'll print this off for the Crew players to know what we are singing. For you non V-Army folks. I would love it, if this catches on, if you could all sing it with us. Maybe even get it on the bigscreen, as I've heard talk of the Crew doing with other chants in the past. That is my peace, thanks, I'm off to bed.
I've always said that there are lots of teams in lots of leagues that use this song (Originally from the musical Carousel, Rogers and Hammerstein 1947, Gerry and the Pacemakers 1965) not just Liverpool, and that sooner or later some team in the US would do so too. And I'd truly love to see the Crew do it. One of my fondest wishes. I think it would catch on with even the casual fan. And I've said so here before. And I have to say that your version is really cool, and I like it a lot. Very well done. HOWEVER: (you knew THAT was coming, didn't you?) it's way too long. In fact, and somebody who knows will please correct me here, I believe that fans at Liverpool and elsewhere only sing the chorus: "Walk on, walk on...." I think your full version deserves to be sung and heard. But if the goal is to get 10,000 people to sing it, then organize 40 guys to sing that four lines a few times. That alone will take some guts, but I think a lot of people will join in after the first few times, and I think it would be tremendous.
Yeah, I felt that it was lengthy as well. Maybe we could get a condensed version, or maybe just get the chorus. Just getting the chorus would be a great beginning. Thanks for the history lesson Bill. I knew a bit of it already just from looking things up online. I'm thinking I'll print out the entire thing, and see how much we can muster together at the tailgate in 2 weeks. I also think the players would love to see it, so I'll print some extras for them to check out.
And I thought this thread was going to be about giving some Crew players Crystal Meth before the match in order to Boost up our intensity. Anyway, good idea KK. If it can be pulled off, you definitely deserve a pat on the back!
Great idea! I only wish I could be at the match on June 28th. I'll be working on trying to get there. You guys should also try to do this on the July 5th game against the Burn (I know I'll be at that one). I know I've engaged in a bit of Crew bashing recently, but we need to show our true colors, and be true Crew supporters.
my advice, if we're gonna sing never walk alone, stick to the original lyrics. Those that already know it, you don't want to eliminate them by changing the words.
Well that won't be a problem if we just do the 4 lines of the chorus at the DC home game. It would be easy to do, and we could get a feel for the response. I think Liverpool also ends the song with one of their clapping sequences. For the first time doing it, maybe we could sing thru the chorus twice, then do a clapping "Crew" sequence. If we're really feeling on top of things, maybe we can add the 3 lines that go before each chorus, naming our Eastern Conf. opponents. We don't have to do the whole thing the first time around, but I would really like to build up to it.
*bump* Alright, the game is in just 2 days, and I wanted to bring this topic back up. I would like to sing the refrain part of the song at the game if nothing else. I'm going to make a CD tonight with the song on it, as an extra measure. Finally, I was thinking of making a simple banner for the game. I'm not sure if it would be something to hang up, or whether it would just be held by several of us that feel the same way during the game if it does not go well. It would read: Crew Fans Deserve Better Better Results or A Better Coach I would like your thoughts on these matters.
Crew Fans Deserve Better Better Results and/or a Better Coach Seriously, though. This might hurt some feelings out there on the pitch, where Crew personnel are trying their best to entertain and win, with little thanks other than a banner telling them they are crap. Such a banner would be offensive, and demeaning to people, who if we knew what they had to deal with on a daily basis, would support not mock. How would you like it if your employer sold tickets to your office and just let anybody in to mock you publicly with banners? I'm sure someone will say that. Not me. But someone will...
I don't think it's gotten that bad yet. Until we're mathmatically eliminated from playoff contention MLS makes it easy for us to make a run in the playoffs and win a cup.
That's a terrible approach, wait until we're eliminated from the playoffs? Are you kidding? Jesus, Real Madrid just had a good campaign this year and as soon as the season was over they went out and got a new coach. Here's the thing. Everybody came into this season expecting us to run away with the East. We haven't done that. In fact, we've been outright crap over the last 9 games. Let's review shall we? Crew @ SJ, 2-1 loss... not pretty. Presthus makes roached on first goal, stupid sub decision that may cost Buddle the season, etc. Crew @ DC, 3-0 loss... nuff said Crew vs. SJ, 1-0 win... ugly game verdict from all, lucky goal to pull off the win. Crew vs. NY, 1-1... gave up the lead off a PK. Had a whole half w/o Pope in there and couldn't get past the rookies to score. 3:2 home loss to NE, 4:3 loss @ SJ in an ugly game Our only other home win this season was against the Rapids. It's pathetic. This side is playing pathetically right now. To tell me such a sign would offend people who are just trying to entertain is a joke. If that is all the Crew wants to do, then let's rename it the Columbus Circus. Better yet, we could become the equivalent of that team that always loses to the Harlem Globetrotters. How is this mocking them? It's a call to arms, a fire under the ass, telling them we expect more than what has been produced so far. Besides, this isn't directed at the players, its directed at the coach. As for people coming by my office. If my job was to be done in a public forum, where I was expected to satisfy the desires of my audience (no, not porn, you pervs), then I would be fine if people came by and showed their disapproval for a poor run of results. You think they should all get raises and a tick-tape parade through town? I don't know what team you've been watching, but it sure isn't the same as what I've seen this year.
True, but you are talking Real, who apparently would have sacked the manager even if it had won the Champions League. Too many egos in that organization, and we're not talking on the pitch, either.
What team doesn't go through a losing streak? ************ing dc united couldn't score much less win earlier in the season, now they are playing very well. Should they of sacked Hudson early on? Please, lets be serious, lets give this a bit more time, if it continues to go badly, that's when we'll give'em both barrels. I'm not prepared to write this campaign off just yet.
OK, as much as I wish and hope, I am not in charge of the Crew organization. So my having a sign or something is not exactly the same as putting a pink-slip in Greg's mailbox. You actually think that management would even move quickly because of fan dissent? You say wait and see, then give him both barrels. That seems to be rather harsh in my mind. The reason is because it would be unexpected. He'd be blindsided. By holding up a sign or having a banner or something, you let him know that the fans aren't please and that he should do something, rather than just blasting him suddenly. We could just do something simple such as: Greg, win for the fans! That kind of shows we're getting impatient, but is a gentler, friendlier, not-so AFZ type of banner.
on a related note, if you are the owner of the time for tommy, or the chad mccarty banner that is being hung over the player tunnel, I'd just like to take this opportunity to say that your wit is amazing, you're ability to get the point across is fantastic. Obviously I'm being sarcastic. Be patient guys, we've still got one of the best teams in the league, buddle will be back at some point, cunny will be back soon, martino will be healthy soon, garcia will start playing better ball, all of these things have zero to do with Andrulis, it's not his fault when a player takes a knock. Furthermore this team has been strengthened by the unexpected play of McBride and Paule. No one would've predicted that either of these guys would be in the running for team MVP at this point. Let just take it easy boys. This'll all be forgotten if we rattle off something like 9-12 points out of a possible 15 going into the playoffs.
How about Greg: We Promise Not to Hang You in Effigy in the Parking Lot Until We Miss the Playoffs !! I have to give zak credit for the optimistic post. But there's been an evolution this season: lose a game, start looking forward on Monday; lose a game, start looking forward on Wednesday; lose a game, start looking forward on Friday. We're running out of week. Of course we've had injuries and absences. But other teams have had more, and worse, and been forced to play with less than the Crew has left and are managing to win. If we can't play defense, we can't win. And injuries have had very little to do with that. And contrary to Greg's plaintive "we're a young team" line, this is, in reality, a veteran team. He will lose them quickly, if he hasn't already, and he won't be able to get them back once they tune him out. You think Greg's meager resume impresses Hejduk? Paule? And while guys like BMB and BMais have known him for years, what about the kids? Who will they look to for leadership when the boat is sinking? All kidding and pro-forma coach abuse aside, Greg has a crisis coming, if it isn't already here. Tomorrow just could be the most important game of the year. I suggest we listen to kk seriously here. Another loss to DC and we will have hit rock bottom. Attendance could shrivel, the clubhouse may very well split down the middle. If ever there was a time for the hard core fans to step up and be counted, this is it. "You'll never walk alone", signs, 90 minutes of noise, flags, whatever we've got. It may be now or never.
I expected McBride's performance.I was saying all preseason that McBride was gonna have a great year, and I'm looking forward to ten bucks.
I don't think there is any doubt about that. It's the first of a four game home stand. Our squad has been in a downward spiral for two months. DC still has a game in hand on us and with a win they pass us for 4th place putting us on the outside looking in as far as playoffs go. Yeah, its still early in the season, but every other team except Colorado Dallas and LA has adapted to their circumstances this year (but they are in the western conference so they don't matter to us). What better way to turn the season around than against DC, I just hope that the boys still have it in them.
Hang is right, and I've clearly ended up with egg all over my face, at the club level, McBride is playing some of his best ball yet. Knock on wood this will continue, I will gladly give over ten bucks if it means he gets fifteen goals this season. While I do have a positive outlook, I agree with Bill, tommorow is a pivitol match. Three points to DC further catapults them up the standings, and puts us even further down it. Either way, I think we play well and win tommorow, that'll quiet the critics for a while. We'll sqeak into the playoffs, just like we always do, and then we'll probably make it to the eastern conference finals, lose and that'll be that.
U N I T E D Raymond Hudson has VD with a knick knack paddy whack give the dog a bone f#ck off Raymond go back home.
I agree completely Bill, 100% Myself, the Frau, and Hang will be rolling into town together on Saturday. What time are people showing up for the tailgate? Is anybody going in before the game to hang up banners and such? I hope to God we have a really strong turnout tomorrow evening. I am ready to get our lads motivated and destroy DC.
Could you explain to some of us what these banners specifically say? Are they new? Just curious to see what is being done by others
