In congested schedule you definitely need to rest your wingers and outside backs and central midfielders. Pedro was overworked for sure and age is a factor . No need to rest a GK ever unless they have a injury but when all your Cb are older it’s nice if you have 3 good guys to rotate but yeah cb also don’t usually rotate as much. When you have Depth guys comete for PT and hit the bench for dumb mistakes. Complacency easy to set in when you expect to start every game. Iron sharpens Iron so if there is a huge drop off from 12-18 players that’s not a good “team”
In the last 15 matches, Porter has used his full available allotment of subs only three times. The most recent example which is Atlanta, he used all five subs, but three of them came on in the 87th minute. 6 matches ago.
Imagine this st Cucho / Zardes / JRR Lw a DP / Etienne /Pedro /Yeboah Cam LZ RW a U22 speedster/ Diaz /Pedro CDM Nagbe at 1.5m and bought down or under DP level /Artur CDM Artur / Morris /Zawadzki Lb a actual LB/ Pedro / Sands CB Mensah / a decent young guy perhaps u22 one who can actually win headers CB Degenek/ Josh Williams RB Moreira / Hariston/ Farsi / Etienne Gk Room without his recent overpaid extension /a young GK that has potential can start meaningless open cup games over Bush So basically i think we are 3 starters short of a legit shield contender and we need a better back up st (veteran) , better back up cb (22-25yrs old ) , better young back up gk and then maybe we have a chance to host a playoff game in 2023
Bro you can dream up any all-star lineup you want but the saddest fact of all is that Porter would misuse them so bad that they wouldn't win games. Caleb Porter is in the process of proving that he has a cycle, and I'm convinced that if his third professional coaching job is at Paris Saint-Germain he'd repeat that cycle: Win a title in the 2nd year and then the wheels fall off.
Not about Porter it’s about Bez and that is not a all star line up ^ that’s a line up that would be competitive with Philly & LAFC we are far away from having the same talent as the other top teams again I’m Fine with firing Porter I’m not his fan boy I’m simply saying this team/ roster is not good enough a better coach not sure where we find one , would help but with this roster we still would not be in the SS race or a legit threat to win the Cup. Obviously anything can happen see 2020 but we are not on the same level as the other top teams
Yeah, we get it. You think Bez has 100% control over constructing the roster. That Porter just sits back, collects his $1M a year contract, and basically plays no meaningful role in player selection. Why you believe that is beyond my ability to comprehend, but whatever.
Bez has the final say Porter is involved , I’m sure our scouts are involved and hopefully the owners are not
Not a better coach that can win with our current roster thst the crew can legitimately hire. Lot of great coaches will never even consider mls let alone Columbus
The second league is a lot different than the first one. We were begging to have Jacen Russell-Rowe moved up to the big squad because of how he was tearing things up with Crew2. What's he done up here?
Why not ppl like JRR , Farsi & others can go play for Crew 2 except when we need them 1 Cucho 2 Zardes 3 LZ 4 new winger 5 new winger 6 Etienne 7 Diaz 8 Yeboah ( expendable has done nothing ) 9 Nagbe 10 Artur 11 Morris 12 actual LB 12 Pedro 13 Moreira 14 Hariston ( expendable i like Etienne better) 15 Mensah 16 Degenek 17 J Williams 18 young CB 19 Room 20 Bush crew 2 JRR Zawadzki Farsi Sands looks like 24 guys to me with plenty of young guys
Unless I’m coaching a u12 or younger Crew team they wouldn’t learn anything from me . I’d rather be a GM.
I like Etienne too but if he can't figure out how to stay onside he's of literally no use at all. It's just not that hard.
Do you really think those two situations are comparable? Players either have the speed and athletic ability to play top flight or they don't. With coaches determining the ability to jump up a level is a lot fuzzier. Porter made the jump from NCAA to MLS for Christ's sake. That's a much bigger jump! Courtois played in the league and has been employed by the Crew for three years. I don't see how it can be credibly argued that he isn't qualified for a coaching position in MLS. Do we always have to be so ********ing cautious? Let's try it.
Courtois might be more qualified from a licensing perspective than Porter (and pretty much any other coach in our history). I think Porter has USSF 'A' license while Courtois has that as well as a UEFA 'A' license.
I agree it could work you can’t count someone out who appears less qualified due to experience at lower levels. But is it up to Bez or will the Haslams have their hand in it ( didn’t they force stuff for the Browns making tons of mistakes ?) Honestly I don’t have a lot of faith in the Ownership. I’ve been hard on Bez but i don’t know how much weight other opinions carry on decisions of getting a player. It seems like the Haslams would stay out of the player moves but maybe not the coaches. Bez also had a lot of non GM responsibilities since he is the team President. Perhaps starting Crew 2 and those other things have not allowed him to give the time effort needed to be a successful GM.
He has been called for offsides 25 times this season. Tied for first in the league with Higuain and Bou. https://www.mlssoccer.com/stats/pla...season&club=all&statType=general&position=all
He is aggressive and needs to time it up better but they aren’t all his fault sometimes the passer hesitates or sees the run too late
