Even I, ever-vigilant, tireless masochist, realize that a Rev playoff birth is practically inevitable now.

YET, I can still see a very slow and painful exit from the playoffs in the offing for our beloved sadists. It goes like this:

Tonight: Just for kicks, DC wins, thus breaking the three-win-in-a-row curse giving hope for the Revs doing the same on Sat. This also adds to the drama later (see below)

Tomorrow: KC loses just to add to the dramatic tension.

Saturday: Of course the match will go down to the wire. Surely the lead will change two or three times. But in the end the Revs will lose, thus putting the Mutts through and leaving the Revs, KC and DC tied at 35 points waiting to see what Chicago does on Sunday. Unfortunately, DC will then be out but KC holds the tie breaker over the Revs so it will then take a Chicago loss for the Revs to get in.

Sunday: Last minute golden goal from Razov puts the Fire in and the Revs out.

Face it, in your gut you know I'm right. But that in no way will diminish the fun of cheering on the team on Saturday!

Anybody know our record since the original "Deathwatch" thread was started?

Moderators, please delete this thread, because it's bad luck. :)

uh...l.a. has already broken the 3 win-in-a-row barrier.

and the fire only need a draw to have the tie breaker on us anyway. so why have razov scoring a "golden goal to win". are you still bitter about the mauricio wright thing? i'd be more upset if jim "mark the bird fydritch" curtain scored the equalizer in injury time when the ball got stuck in his 'fro on a corner and was accidentally knocked thru the goal face, ball and all, by brian dunseth.

I started the original thread when the Revs were on two wins looking the break the jinx (yes, I missed LA breaking the jinx, so tonight's DC game becomes very irrelevant). Since the first post in the other thread the Revs tied Columbus (a victim of the jinx) and then beat DC and Dallas. So if anything this thread is a good luck charm!

And no, I don't pull wings of butterflies, they hit my windshield and cause me to crash!

Not only a more fitting (and more painful...bravo) ending, but also more accurate since a tie is enough to sink the Revs.

Just consider this thread the equivalent of that guy who used to ride in the chariot of the new caesar whispering "you are but a mortal."

Don't take this the wrong way but, what the hell kind of fan are you? Face it, the Revs are dead. OK, they're not dead, but will be shortly. OK, even if they make the playoffs, they'll lose in the first round. You sound like my dad and Seth Meyer, that supposed Red Sox fan on SNL. I'm reminded of Michael Kay, the Yankee's announcer. He swore that Boston fans must be Calvinists at heart, that we enjoy being put-out. And that three generations of Sox fans have lived without a Championship, while his four year-old had already lived through three Yankee crowns. Well I won't get into the fact that we have the reigning Super Bowl Champions and the greatest team in NBA history in Boston, well the area anyway. But my question to him, and you, is, what do you want us to do? Give up? Never!

Well, Mousey, not only were you wrong on the three-consecutive-win issue, you were wrong on DC beating Dallas. I think you may also prove to be wrong on Razov, who may not play Sunday.

Now that Dallas has won, Colorado has some incentive to beat KC tonight in order to grab home-field advantage in the playoffs.

The stars are coming into alignment, and the Revs are going to win Saturday night.

The only thing that worries me is that I hear Bill Buckner is flying in for the game.

The answer to the question of what kind of fan I am is contained right there...as long is there is a Bill Buckneresque chance of defeat I feel compelled to point it out. Does that mean that I want the fans to give up? By no means! I simply figure that if I keep my expectations low enough I can never be disappointed!

Look at it this way...the glass is not half empty, it is too large. I keep looking for the smallest glass so that it is easier to fill. If the Revs lose I can't be disappointed, but if they win I can marvel at the miracle.

You know, Bill Buckner is the most unfairly maligned player in the history of baseball.

    1. He didn't lose Game 6. The game was tied on Gedman's passed ball.

    2. He woulnd't have beaten Mookie Wilson to the bag. Mookie could really run and Buckner had no legs left by that point in his career.

    3. The Red Sox get NOWHERE near Game 6 of the World Series that year without Buckner and the 102 runs he drove in.

    4. In terms of goats for that game, Buckner should be behind John MacNamara, Bob Stanley, Calvin Schiraldi, and Rich Gedman - in that order.

It's really a tragedy. If MacNamara's not sleeping on the job and puts in Dave Stapleton for the 10th inning, or if Buckner just manages to catch the ball, he's in the Hall of Fame. Now, he's got no chance.

Not that I obsess over the Red Sox, or anything.

I agree. Buckner is a sad story. One of the best hitters of his time, and he's in hiding in Montana.

I'll always remember seeing him an inside-the-park home run at Fenway, and hobble all the way around the bases.

Why Stapleton wasn't brought in as usual as a late-inning replacement is beyond me.

Besides, the Mets win only tied the series at 3-3. The Red Sox proceeded to lose the next game and the Series.

But the "Bill Buckner scenario" stands at least for the proposition that it's never over 'til it's over.

Now that this post has proven to be a GOOD LUCK charm allow me to further its power by being the first non-Fire fan to say that the Revs will go two and out in the playoffs.

(if that is not enough to get them to MLS Cup then I'll be back after this series to predict a pounding at the hands of SJ or Columbus);)
