So we're watching the match on the tv. Here at my house are Ian, Christine, and me. We're watching, and Ian says, "Coz is on the radio again tonight." I thought it would be interesting to hear, even though we were watching on tv. The radio broadcast was about a minute behind (probably because I'm only at 56k). Let's put it this way... for the last half of the match, we were watching the tv and listening to the call on the radio a minute behind. Coz, you said you could do it, and you weren't kidding. Great freakin' job... seriously. Your humorous comments were actually funny... that was a nice change. Anyway, I was going to send you an email, but I thought everybody should know.
shite, if that's the case... it might have been more enjoyable to listen to the webcast than to see it play out
Thanks everybody. I actually thought I made more mistakes last night than the Revs game, but felt more comfortable making them. And the night was pretty crazy, as I didn't make it to the broadcast booth until the second commercial break due to the Fado bus being about three hours late. I apologize profusely for not checking more thoroughly that the kid I knocked over while sprinting around the concourse was okay. Upon further reflection, I totally got the playoff implications wrong. The Fire can still control their destiny by winning next week. Later, COZ
between the compression and decompression buffering, we couldn't watch on TV while listening to WBIG. The 20+ second difference was too much to take.
I listened to about the first 25 minutes (had the radio on and the tv sound muted), and I it would have surprised me to know that it was Coz' second game. I thought it was done well. Some questions/comments: Does WBIG turn down the wattage at 7:00? Right at seven, the feed, which was coming through loud and clear, suddenly became quiet and muffled. It was right after the two Columbus goals, so a part of me was wondering if someone flipped a switch the same way the GErmans cut off the feed of Louis/Schmeling II. If I had one criticism of Coz, it was that he treated a square pass at midfield with the same enthusiasm as a goal attempt. If I had the game on the radio, and I was working in the yard, or something, I probably would have had the feeling that nothing was going on in the game. I'm guessing there wasn't a monitor for you guys....there were times when you were trying to identify a player (Columbus' first goal, for example), and on tv we were able to watch a replay and figure out who the player in question was.
That is, flat out, the hardest part of doing this. Visually processing the play as it escalates, being able to describe it, and elevating your enthusiasm all at the same time is really tough. But I'm imagining it comes with more practice. I'm hoping so, anyway. Suffice it to say, I'm hoping the Fire makes the playoffs for personal reasons, 'cause I may get some more chances to do this. There was, but it wasn't on when I got there, and we never had a long enough break to turn it on. Plus it was a bit too far behind where we were set up to be useful. We basically tried to catch the replays on the Jumbotron. And I was absolutely horrible on identifying any Crew player that wasn't Duncan Oughton, the "bad" Perez, or Jon Busch. Oy. Later, COZ
