I was starting to get worried that I'd have to pimp it myself. Reads a little more scattered than I thought when I sent it in yesterday. Once again, I think it comes across a bit more harshly than I intended, but I think that happens when I'm pressed for time. Later, COZ
His story was bad. Ok, I'll read it. Pretty good job there Coz. And I blame the fact that the Fire aren't doing as hot this year cause I have only made it to 2 games this year. And they haven't lost when I have been there.
I agree with the article's final conclusion that either extreme for the Fire is possible (first or last). It is getting increasingly difficult for me to believe that the players feel first place really is within reach -- either that or they could care less about winning. To Peter Wilt -- It is easy to be visible when the team wins. Where have you been lately, invisible to most of us. How can you let the league take Beasley midseason and we don't hear a word from you as to what can be done to better this struggling roster? To Coach Dave -- Tell management about our roster holes (need a defender, need a defender, need a defender, deed a defender) and stop it with players playing out of position. To the bench players -- Act like you been there when sitting on the bench. I watch how you kids just sit there, never expecting to be played. To the starting players -- Show us fans some heart out there. Decide whether you want to play to be in first or keep it up and you will soon be in last. Still depressed about this Fire team !!!
I'm sorry that management doesn't run everything by you first but just because you don't know about something doesn't mean it isn't happening.
The article mentions the dominance of San Jose, buts neglects to mention that they are also "cellar-dwelling" at the moment. Perhaps you meant KC and not SJ, Coz? KC is the most dominant team in the west right now being only 1 point behind LA (11 points ahead of SJ) with two games in hand. Not that I don't like Coz's articles, but this one just seems a bit off. Especially saying the other three teams (including KC) aren't quite as competitive. Don't get me wrong I'm not hyping KC, I'm just a bit confused. It would also be worth noting that KC has not beaten Chicago this year (nor has San Jose).
The Fire has not won a league game for five or more weeks. The Beasley transfer has hung over the team like a black cloud for most of this time. And for the first time in many years, Mr. Wilt is nowhere visible on the side-lines and we hear nothing about this team and his desire to do something to get the team back on track (a trade, a development pick-up, etc.). Again, it is easy to be visible when the team wins. Where has management been for the last seven games when they haven't ???????????????
Oh and by the way -- get your nose out of his backside and see how poor the team is playing. We stink and I for one don't want the team to learn how to accept that.
Uhh... he was standing two rows behind me at the last game, and he was mingling in section 8 the game before that as well. Have you actually looked for him?
Maybe instead of geeking it up with us, he's off doing his job trying to land some talent for OUR team. Get over yourself. The treatment he's given us in the past is more than anyone could ever dream of. Ask other MLS fans the last time they had a beer with their teams GM.

A shame really that the Fire is idly sitting by and not even bringing in any players to look at. Where did I ever say the team has been performing well? Next time you want to run your mouth off. Don't.

Next time you want to run your mouth off. Don't.[/QUOTE] I haven't seen the Fire make any signings yet. Do you see any life in their play the past seven games? Cite me anything that the general manager and other management has done to bolster the team during this stretch of play or even during the entire season to date. It is not too long ago, I remember T-Bone being brought in when Kubik was hurt. I remember mid-season signings of Wynalda and George. I remember the team pulling a player like Wolniec out of nowhere. WE HAVE BEEN PLAYING THE ENTIRE SEASON WITHOUT A DEFENDER AND CHRIS ARMAS PLAYING OUT OF POSITION -- you certainly must see this as well as everyone else. How can management sit idly by (yes they have the same rostered players from the start of this season -- not one single change to its roster) and watch a this once proud franchise lose the killer instinct and accept mediocracy? Don't we ever learn things from the experience of other teams? This youth movement didn't work too well for the Bulls. Coach Dave may be great with the development of the kids, but is that what we want to see on the field? It is a free country the burden, so don't tell this unhappy fan to SHUT UP !!! It is highly likely that there are other unhappy fans out there that may agree with me -- this season stinks and before we flush it down the toilet why don't we continue in Fire tradition and pull out all the stops to win. The Cubs have been waiting for next year for an awful long, long, long time. P.S. Why don't you (the burden) simply not read my opinion.
You entitiled to your opinion, but remember, if the Fire find some great talent (and word on the street is they have) they would like to sign and said talent is playing for another club, the Fire have to wait for the transfer market before the player can join the club, so what is the rush to sign someone before Aug 18th? From the sound of things, Peter Wilt is doing a lot of work to bring in some players who can make an immediate impact, a lot of people trust this man, and I, for one, am one of them.
Um, oops? Where are my editors when I need them?! Yeah, I sorta looked at the points column and skimmed over the actual teams. Of course, this may punch a hole in the argument, unless Davy Arnaud has been imposing himself on the flow of the games. You could extend it that you've got a core of guys who collectively have that kind of impact in Klein, Wolff and Arnaud. Sort of a "cumulative" impact player. Wasn't San Jose holding the number two spot for a while? I gotta start actually paying attention to the Western Conference. The "impact player" thing still holds in the east, I think, and Donovan still has that kind of thing going for him. Later, COZ
These two things struck me, because if you were to throw out names like Randall Simon and Tony Womack, you could be talking about the Cubs right now compared to last year. They swooned at pretty much the same time, and also haven't made any moves yet. The difference is that they pretty much don't have a shot at winning their division, and despite all of this, we still do. But, and this is what some other guys are getting at, we don't know what's going on behind the scenes. It reminds me of all the people I went to college who would ask me why we couldn't bring their favorite bands to play on campus. They assumed that the sum total of the process was to just pick up the phone and hire the band, no problem. That's just not how it works. The transfer window is just one part of it. Plus, there are guys on the roster that you don't want to give up on too early, otherwise you may damage them in the long run. Kelly Gray, I think, is a good example of what can go wrong with a player's development, because he wasn't able to get consistent minutes at one position. So we have to stick by some guys even though they're struggling, because it might benefit us later in the season when they've gotten some real games under their belt. It's hard to see that far in the future right now, sure, but I still trust the guys running the team. Anyway, for what it's worth. Later, COZ
One of my points is that the team (or maybe the MLS) let the Beasley thing brew for a long time. and I think it could have had an bad effect on the team. Hard to believe that it didn't, with the team knowing that its best (or one of its best) players would soon not be with them. Also during that period, there has been nothing done to bolster the roster. Are you telling me that there really isn't a defender available somewhere to help us out? Why does it have to be a big allocation type signing. When T-Bone quickly came in to replace an injured Kubik, he wasn't a big signing. But, he quickly plug a big hole and I think it sent a message to the team about this organization wanting to WIN EVERY GAME. It feels like we are waiting around for that transfer window to open before we do anything. If that is true, I will simply question the judgment of letting the team LEARN HOW TO LOSE over a 10 week period while we all wait. I will accept that we have a young team of possibly very good/great future players. Who on the field (like the days of Nowak, Kublik, Stoichkov, etc.) is teaching them to crave the victory and play like a champion? Razov has been hurt (but that never has been his greatest skill), Armas has been playing out of position and Beasley has been distracted. Wiiliams, Ralph, Mapp, Curtin, Pause, Ring, etc. are all good players, but who is the teacher/motivator/emotion of this team. I can't help but feel very frustrated about how this team has played the past five or six weeks. It is so unlike the Fire that I have come to appreciate. I just want it to stop and stop as soon as is possible. Thanks for your thoughts.
