Trump would correct you by insisting that it was 1917.

Seriously, the fact that in all of these months he couldn't wrap his head around this simple date and kept saying "1917" should be enough alone to tell us everything we need to know about how much unfit he is for his role.

We've continued to have world wars, why wouldn't we continue to downplay pandemic spread?

It was probably his attempt to conjure up a new wedge issue in which his base would debate and confront those who thought the flu pandemic started in 1918.

Well it’s harder to hide a couple of world wars. The first to end world wars and the second just to prove it didn’t.
Up until a few months ago a huge portion of the population, probably including the trumps, had NEVER heard of the “1917” pandemic. Well 1918 even though it was still killing people through 1920.

You overestimate us in the US. I bet knowledge of WW1 isn't much higher than the knowledge of the pandemic.

I think you would agree that the generation that was whelped in the mid 30's sucked up all the intelligence leaving none for those who followed! :whistling:

The Reuben sandwich was invented in the Jewish Republic of Omaha, Nebraska, by chef Reuben Kulakofsky, or at Reuben's Delicatessen in New York City, noone is quite sure.

So by keeping my kids in the petri dish known as a daycare center might actually make me asymptomatic? Hallelujah!

I'm beginning to grow more comfortable being outside the more stuff I do. I might have to go to an office building in downtown Philly next week, and, knowing that very few people will be in it, I'm kinda looking forward to it. It'll be nice to get out from behind my desk and get back to doing what I'm truly good at. Two months ago, I would've been freaked out and said no way, but I'm feeling more comfortable in my mask (I coached baseball in it for an hour in 95 degree heat, and it wasn't an incredibly unpleasant experience), and I'm feeling more comfortable being around others who are masked.

There are a lot of things I miss doing as a dad, but none more than taking my kids to the zoo and the aquarium. I actually enjoy visiting these places, but I'm really not comfortable visiting these places right now. I'd feel much better if I knew that everyone at the zoo would wear a mask (properly, and not half-assed), but we're not at that point to trust people to not act like idiots. My favorite example of this is running to Wawa, and seeing all the people mask up just as they walk into the store, then immediately rip the mask off once they leave the store. Yeah, it's great you wore it inside, but you're still walking through a crowd of people without a mask on.

Anyway, tl;dr - I think if people took masks more seriously, more people would be more comfortable, and more people would be able to do more fun stuff. Like go to the zoo.

Part of California's great mythology is that it is a land without history. The idea is that anyone can come here and be who they want to be without the burden of something telling you how you are supposed to be. And that includes sandwiches. If we want to make a reuben with ostrich meat and red cabbage and havarti cheese on sourdough, then that's how we'll make it.

It might. Democrats do. College-educated voters and/or minorities do. Every voting group does, except high-school educated white. If we unite against the tyranny of the minority, we can have good things again.

Actually, initial tests seem to indicate the saliva test is even more accurate, which is good because the swab test has an unreasonable false response rate.

That's very true. California's great mythology is that it is a land with any respect whatsoever for the culinary delights from the rest of the civilized/uncivilized world.

Ps...I do give credit for Rice-A-Roni ... that San Fransisco treat! :p

I also went to a nerd-ish school district growing up, or at least one in which we offered both Chinese and Latin before I graduated high school, along with a very notable number of AP classes (I think AP Latin was even one of them). So most of our jokes were the blonde girl kind of jokes, such as "How many blondes does it take to unscrew a light bulb? 5. One to hold the light bulb and four to turn the ladder." Stupid stuff like that.

This is scheduled to happen as soon as Trump tests positive. The line forms on the left.
