Some interesting things happening with the vaccine rollout in Australia. Apart from being unable to obtain supplies resulting in less than a quarter of the target of 4 million peple vaccinated by a date that shifts every couple of weeks (originally March, then early April then end of April), the vaccine the Federal Govt put most of their faith in is now not recommended for under 50's. This means under 50's are left with Pfizer as their only option, except we don't have many of those as the Govt only ordered 20 million doses on a delivery timetable they don't want to talk about. To replace the AZ vaccine for under 50's they have ordered an additional 20 million doses of Pfizer. These additional doses will start to be delivered before the end of the year. Apparently if Novovax gets approved we should get some of those around August. There is nothing else in the pipeline for us. We were one of the world leaders in supressing Covid 19 (mainly through the good work of our state governments) and look like being a good example of what not to do in getting the population vaccinated.
BTW, I had my first shot on March 17, second on April 6th. Good to go... or stay, depending on what the experts say...
BY FAR the most aggravating thing about this last year was the wiping off of every goddamned thing upon return from the grocery store. It meant that grocery shopping was an all-day affair. Well, that and all the corpses.
You think that was bad? Now we are supposed to hold our breath the entire time we're in the store. Well, not me. I'm going to wear scuba gear when I go shopping tomorrow.
I got vaxxed this week. J&J, so one and done. One hour outside of town, into the borderline country. My neighbor drove to a small town outside of Champaign, his trip was a lot longer. I guess that's how it is everywhere. My friend in the Philly suburbs can't get an appointment, whereas the friend Upstate NY says his town is swimming with vaxes. The government's apparent priority list - 1) Joe the Plumber 2) The inner city 3) The suburbs Although I would guess it just seems like that, and the real differentiator is that the demand is (by far) the highest in camp #3 and lowest in camp #1.
I think I mentioned my younger brother drove from St, Charles to Quincy. His neighbors drove down to Danville. I walked to the gymnasium on the campus where I work. Which is better than my other option: going to the Pocono Raceway about an hour away.
Wait a minute. You actually breathe when you are in an elevator? Nobody breathes in elevators. You push the button, face forward, hold your breath, stare at the numbers and hope the squirrels have enough crack left to get you to your floor.
Maybe the vaccines should be more targeted to those states facing a surge? I could see this being a bit controversial a month ago, but as we are reaching the point where anyone over 16 that wants a shot can get an appointment, maybe time to mobilize the army and others to ensure the hardest hit states get vaccinated faster.
Watch those sports fans who probably swore they'd never take the vaccine and things of that nature, rush to get it when they find out they can not attend sporting events without it...
Around here, within a 25 mile radius, I had multiple options when I signed up somewhere from South Milwaukee to Menomonee Falls, bordering, an area of deeeeeeep red country. I had to wait a week, but finally being able to set one up for my dad in CO was 3 day wait and half an hour drive. This significantly differs from my mom who had to search and search and drive an hour to get her shot. That is Central Fl. To me, it just seems like who has a vaccine available (which is another way of saying what you said about camp 3)
India is just exploding rightnow too. Today's numbers look to be especially horrific for new cases. Probably in the 150 to 175k ish range is my guess. I'm so, so sick of this shit.
I stumbled upon this nonsense in BS…. Good grief Off Topic ** Random Chatter ** https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink/to...tter-**.1585225/&share_type=t&link_source=app
That's some pretty crazy Proud Boys sh*t on that thread, I have to say... They do make some points that are interesting, even if those here will fail to see it... "Actually, the number of people who have gotten it and were either asymptomatic or only had mild symptoms is much, much higher. Several antibody tests suggest that about 98% of the people that get it are either asymptomatic or have only mild symptoms. Like you said, the Low Information Citizen sits in front of their TV watching the "News" and believe they are getting the complete story." Now I am not sure about the 98% claim, don't know where they got that other than in their own brain...maybe not...from my own experience, and from those that I work with that have experienced Covid, the above it quite true...very mild. At least 400 people in the department have tested positive for Covid since the start...2 are still out with long term effects, the rest are all back to work. 1 of those 2 went to the hospital. Both of those 2 had multiple health issues prior to Covid. The other 398 are all back to work, no issues. So, from my perspective and experience only...nothing to worry about...I have had worse hangovers... This, to me, rings all too true...and "they" know it...
