Those are two different players. Dr J played for Philadelphia 76ers, Magic Johnson played for the LA Lakers.
He was pretty good for the Virginia Squires first. I have no idea how famous he was there, vis a vis his time with the Nets.
I know he was a Squire but I have no memory of his time there. Moving to NYC he couldn't avoid becoming famous.
When MJ was getting acclaim for his air time on shots "Air Jordan" my thinking was this is something Dr J was doing 15 years earlier.
That's something I should have remembered, despite not being a fan of the NBA. (I couldn't even tell you who won the Finals last year, but if I looked it up, I'd probably remember ESPN talking about them doing so.) D'oh! I just looked it up. "The best-of-seven series ended with the Western Conference champion Oklahoma City Thunder defeating the Eastern Conference champion Indiana Pacers in seven games." I never would have guessed that, although I do now remember Cleveland losing to Indiana. There's something about the "new" NBA since sometime in the early 2000s when it became "one star player basically gets to dictate who he wants on the team" that definitely doesn't sit right with me. It's moreso about egos and all that than a bunch of really good guys on one team. The 90s Chicago Bulls with a bunch of good guys probably wouldn't be able to happen now.

And in America we have an anti Vaxxer and idiot as head of our DoH plus pulled out of the WHO. May we live in interesting times.
I was telling someone recently that the current world in crisis reminds me of the COVID lockdowns. Obviously, it's very different, but in one specific sense it has a similar feeling for me. Especially during the initial lockdowns, I'd ritualistically wake up every morning, make coffee, and read online about a world in crisis that's completely falling apart. Since the Iran War started, I feel like I'm back in my COVID lockdown morning ritual: wake up, make coffee, and read about a world in crisis that's completely falling apart.
Video popped up earlier this week of the start of the Thunder game when they made the call to suspend the league. Was kind of surreal to watch that knowing what was going to happen and seeing the confusion on the faces of some players and fans.
I was reading on another website there is growing concern about international travel - specifically, people are starting to worry that if they travel far from home, they might get stuck because of the developing fuel crisis thanks to the orange idiot. I was left scrambling when borders started closing because of Covid, given I was in Melbourne at the time with a ticket on Air New Zealand going back to the US several weeks later. Air NZ was among the first to abandon international flights because of New Zealand closing its borders rather early. I mention this because I've been intending to head down there again, hoping for late April or May, but now I'm having second thoughts, especially since most flight paths from Europe to NZ/Australia go through the Middle East. It definitely does have a Covid deja vu feel to it.
This is probably best for another thread, but speaking of the fuel prices, it's pathetic and interesting how MAGA is all like "oh well. Such is life."
Yeah.. I just saw a TikTok where they posted a MAGA literally dancing in front of a Gas Prices display and singing about how awesome Trump is for dropping gas prices 5 cents.. The person that posted the guy dancing then wondered where that guy was now that gas prices are 15 cents higher than when Trump took office.
That is, until they lose their job/home/healthcare and they cry on the webs: I didn't mean hurt me!!! Wwwaaaahhhhhh
