  1. Guess Xi aims at people begging to return to the strict covid rules.

It may also be a way to purge the top heavy age range of their population. I've seen estimates of 33,000 dying a day.. Not only that, but an important holiday is coming up for China where people visit family members and, since they haven't had it in 3 years, people are having huge parties with their entire extended family. As a result, huge numbers of people are traveling within China and all covid testing requirements have been lifted...

The opinion of the China-watchers I watch is that the newer, quicker spreading varieties of Covid were spreading quickly despite the starting-to-break-down zero tolerance policies, so the government did an instant 180 to hide the fact that their policy wasn't working. Now they can blame the people getting the freedom they wanted despite the repercussions, and not a failed epidemic policy.

Spejic should make a model of the battle of Kursk to unite the kingdoms

I wouldn't put it above China's leadership to try something like that, but I think it's doubtful. Pursuing that goal would mean that they are much more in control of the situation than they actually seem to be.

I think Spejic's theory is more likely. They lost control of COVID, their extreme measures were unpopular to the point of creating instability, so by "opening up" to the will of the people, Xi can at least try to avoid the worst of the social turmoil, save face, and blame the people for what's happening.

Having said that, it's likely that Xi and his cronies do see what you are saying as a fortunate side effect of the huge mess that they got China into.

One problem with the "kill the old people" theory is that the upper levels of the Communist Party are made up of old people. It's been hitting their ranks pretty hard.

China needs more people not fewer. They need to up the retirement age.
India is about to pass it in population.

  18. It's a bit weird. Some in here state/claim the Chinese vaccins arenot as good as the western ones.
Assume that's true, but even if those vaccins are only 50% effective as the western ones it will provide protection from getting infected and if not, it will protect you from getting very ill, compared to not being vaccinated.
The huge issue however is exactly the fact that only a small percentage of the elder population is vaccinated, hence the sudden overload of patients in the hospitals.

  19. I just realized Chinese New Year is the year of the rabbit. Well, the Chinese government needs to pull a rabbit out of the hat for sure. Maybe it will happen this year?

Yes, but India is not exactly a shining example of a nation with optimal population.
