Different types of people handle situations differently, especially when it comes to stuff like a pandemic of a deadly Wuhan virus. But in New York City and elsewhere, an interesting pattern is emerging in regard to fancy chain grocery stores like Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods which have been picked over like a carcass and still have long lines. Meanwhile, regular neighborhood chain stores have a few shortages, but are operating pretty normally . . . https://thefederalist.com/2020/03/1...es-but-regular-chains-humming-along-as-usual/
City of San Jose press release from late 2004 regarding a local government commissioned study of the impact of the closure of San Jose Hospital after nearly a century. A study of the likely impacts of closing San Jose Medical Center has found that there may be greater risk to community health and forecasts the need for another downtown hospital within sixteen years. The $100,000 study, jointly funded by the City of San Jose and the County of Santa Clara, was released today by Mayor Ron Gonzales and Pete McHugh, Chair of the County Board of Supervisors. It was originally prompted by the announcement two years ago by Hospital Corporation of America that the company intended to close the downtown hospital by 2007. In September this year HCA suddenly announced that it would close San Jose Medical Center in just 90 days, shuttering its doors on December 9, 2004, more than two years sooner than first planned. According to Dr. Henry Zaretsky, who prepared the study, San Jose will need either a downtown 200-bed hospital by 2020 or equivalent capacity in nearby hospitals with accessible transportation for downtown residents to keep up with the anticipated growth in the community . . . [Emphasis added] http://www.henryzaretsky.com/downloads/SJMC_Closure_Impact_Study.pdf Did they head the warnings of their own expert study? Because the 16-year-away day-of-reckoning appears to have arrived.
The MLS placed a moratorium on team training through Sunday. I believe each team will review their plans at that time. This break was to give the teams a chance to be sure the facilities and practices were up to par for what was required to keep players and employees safe from the virus.
My nearest store, the SaveMart on Mckee in east San Jose, has been kept fairly well-stocked. Other than hand sanitizer, I have never not been able to buy anything else, whereas friends from other areas say their stores have been out of TP, paper towels, bread, hand soap.....
People are sheeple and the media's to blame for their panic. The amount fear mongering going on by the media is sickening to behold. Chill out and take precautions, you'll be fine.
We went to WF on Wednesday night, and a lot of our regular items were not on the shelves. I ordered (free) delivery of everything I couldn't find, and magically it appeared at my front door in aluminum bags. But my friends who went to the grocery yesterday found empty shelves. Kind of shocking, really, nothing I have ever experienced. We have our own neighborhood bodega, the corner market, which I haven't tried lately as their prices are ridiculous. Dave Kaval used to be a regular there.
When I woke up in the morning, I was hung over like hell, But I'm smiling and I'm happy, Cause there is a game today. Put on my Earthquakes jersey, And a scarf around my neck, Marijuana in my pocket, And a bottle in my pack. We are the crazy Ultras from the Bay, Fighting in Seattle and LA. We are the crazy Ultras from the Bay, Bleeding black and blue every day.

Not having access to any of those (much less to all three of them) is certainly unfortunate. However, though not truly a substitute for the real things, you can at least play FIFA 20, pray among your holy icons at home, and cook up some pasta as you and your family & friends host a Pasta & Bingo Night. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Services are being streamed in various parts of the country. Check with your preferred religious provider, as this does seem like an appropriate time for prayer in a no-atheist-in-foxholes kind of way.
On this subject, an article in The Athletic re MLS teams and commitment (or not yet) to part time and hourly workers impacted by the suspension. Supposedly, no paywall for this particular piece. But, of course, no specific mention of the Quakes. Two MLS teams so far have announced plans to compensate part-time and hourly employees: Atlanta United and Orlando City (as first reported by Pro Soccer USA). Other teams, at least publicly, are still in the planning stages as of Friday night . . . https://theathletic.com/1674759/
