Today's numbers according to Covid Tracking Project.

After 4 days straight of above 1k deaths, the last 2 have been significantly below. However, as per usual, the weekend effect must be considered, so we'll have to see how big of a spike there is on Tuesday and what happens the rest of the week before anything related to a curve can be determined.

    May he rest in peace.

I tell you what- there's no way I'd stay in the job knowing 46% of the nation's voters supported the man who wants to get as many people killed or infected as possible just to try to save his economy or his presidency. It would be different if we were all on the same page, but we're not.

Victoria continues to have infections in the hundreds each day with death rate running higher (10 was the highest for a day on Sunday) but at least numbers are flattening a bit. Serious issues in a number of aged care facilities where worlkers do shifts in a number of different centres thereby increasing the risks. The Victorian government has stated the main cause of infections is people continuing to work when they have symptoms so has introduced some payments for people who get tested and must remain in isolation and as a result lose income. NSW continues with a small amount of community transmissions but hasn't suffered a large outbreak yet. The other states have things under control for now.

Yes and no. The liability thing is bunk, no doubt.

But, the federal weekly cheque of 600, which is over and above state unemployment benefits was too much IMO.

Thats considerably more than even their Northern neighbors who have a higher cost of living.

It disincentivizes work. I read somewhere that the $200 bonus leaves those unemployed at 70% of their pre-pandemic income. So $200 is too low, while $600 is too high. I wrote up the superdave plan, which is mobilize the armed forces, regular and reserves and guard, and LEOs, to transport food to people who have to stay in their homes for 3 weeks. Only people who work in those fields or in food distribution, the medical field, a few other TRULY essential jobs can leave the house.

The appropriate dollar amount would follow the norm in the civilized world, which seems to be around 85% of pre-pandemic income.
