And if that happens, with the surviving NASL franchises joining USL, would that be such a bad thing? If the net result is the same amount of soccer teams across the country, just under a different league, then would that be so bad?

    Just asking.

Yes because if this happens D2 will be dominated by MLS B/Reserve Teams...

I once exchanged meaningful glances with a ferryboat captain on Lake Mackinac. At least, they were meaningful for me. It's possible he never actually saw me.

Okay besides the implausibly ambitious overall plan, what is your obsession with wiping out the Strikers brand?

Because of Miami teams expansion news. Maybe change the name is to much, but losing "Fort Lauderdale" i think is not a bad idea... (Neutral names alluding to south Florida - Florida Strikers SC, Gold Coast Strikers, Strikers FC, Golden Strikers FC, Everglades Strikers FC, etc.)

Sorry, but this is my first exposure to Portuguese NASL fanboy fiction. Great stuff; it totally crushes the regular kind.

Why would they? There is exactly zero benefits for them in moving to NASL. One could argue that a wiser move is from NASL to USL—and Scorpions definitely find this thinking rational.

Actually it is more along the lines of the San Antonio Spurs want to start a USL team, and they want to use the Scorpion's stadium. So they are paying good money for the Scorpions to get out of the way.

    Amen to this.

Instead of fighting the big dogs, forge your own identity and niche. I mean, NASL already feels like they are fighting battles between both MLS (Miami market, Minnesota being promoted) and USL (San Antonio, for example).

Do I sound like a bad guy when I say I'd like the Eleven to eventually make it to the big show and likely forget about the NASL in the process? It's a very nice league, but I worry about it being aimless and chasing at windmills.

They need to get their ducks in a row before they take on MLS. MLS is swallowing up their markets one by one, almost as if they're purposely looking to spite them.

The only way to do this, really, is:

    1. Avoid medium-sized markets already in USL (not counting reserve/affiliate squads) and MLS (or on MLS' radar), and maximize existing franchises.

Some medium-sized market options are: Virginia Beach/Norfolk, Calgary, Austin, New Orleans, Nashville, Milwaukee, Buffalo, Baltimore, Las Vegas.

Relocate Ft. Lauderdale to any city, and relocate Carolina to Charlotte or Raleigh.

    2. Get into largest markets MLS is not in ASAP and make noise with a stadium project. The only ones in the Top 15 metro are Detroit and Phoenix.

    3. Get into places like San Francisco, LA, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Toronto, etc. and get stadiums built (including the Cosmos stadium). They need the largest markets to be the anchors for a league looking to eventually go toe-to-toe with MLS.

    Snapshot:

    Established Core
    1. Edmonton
    2. Indianapolis
    3. Jacksonville
    4. New York
    5. Oklahoma City
    6. Ottawa
    7. Puerto Rico
    8. Tampa
    Relocation

    Ft. Lauderdale (anywhere)
    Carolina (Charlotte or Raleigh)

    Possible fold
    1. Miami
    2. Minnesota
    Priority/immediate expansion (largest markets)
    1. Chicago
    2. Detroit
    3. Los Angeles
    4. Phoenix
    5. San Francisco
    6. Toronto
    Eventual Expansion
    1. Austin
    2. Baltimore
    3. Buffalo
    4. Calgary
    5. Cleveland
    6. Las Vegas
    7. Milwaukee
    8. Nashville
    9. New Orleans
    10. San Diego
    11. Virginia Beach/Norfolk
Easy to say, very difficult to do, but pretty vital if this long shot is to happen.

Carolina is already in the Raleigh market.

I might have to agree about Ft. Lauderdale. 1,000+ for the last game is embarrassing. How about the Charlotte Strikers? Red, yellow, and black would look great in the Queen City. However, we need a stadium first. Just ask the Independence about stadium issues.

For some reason I thought they were in Winston-Salem. Thanks for the correct info!

Yeah, Ft. Lauderdale/Miami is really not a kind sports market. Charlotte would be good. Nashville. New Orleans. Anywhere big enough, really.

Maybe Memphis or New Orleans would be better options.

Couldn't expand in Toronto until the CSA says so, even if you had an ownership group ready, there's still a moratorium on new teams in American leagues in Canada.
