Aeropostale is a stale brand (I think, I haven't been to a 'fashion mall' in a long time) -- but they certainly could do worse than rolling the dice with a promising young soccer pro.

This isn't really about Cavan, it's about some marketing dudes trying to implement a strategy.

Well, he has access to a German passport. He can leave for Europe at 16 like Pulisic, Reyna, and others. Just depends what Man City and Philly decide to do. He doesn't need to wait until he's 18 like McKennie, Richards, Etc.

He doesn't turn 16 until next September.
So presumably the time for him to move would be after the 2025 MLS season.
ts still a long way off..............................

I do expect him to play a lot more next season for Philadelphia.

Can you explain to me the dual nat 16 year old rule? What’s stoping Cavan from going to Germany and joining a Germany club before the age of 16? If he has a German citizenship.,

It’s a FIFA rule. You basically can’t move for reasons having to do with soccer before the age of 18 with a few exceptions. One is if your parents move for reasons that have nothing to do with soccer, another is if you have citizenship of that country (or EU citizenship) which allows you to go at 16, another is if you are within certain number of miles of an international border (San Diego will be using this). There’s a few others but more or less FIFA doesn’t allow you to be moving for soccer at such a young age.

    Full rule found here https://digitalhub.fifa.com/m/2130eb84c31cf4e4/original/lb2t6bqgmi2a1x1pr5xs-pdf.pdf

I live near an urban university and so many of the kids are trying to look like 90s kids. I was a kid back then and even then it felt like our fashion was pretty dumb (baggy, flared jeans with lots of pockets, dad sneakers, etc). It still is, but I could see brands like Aeropostale having a mini-revival, sitting the the meaty part of the current nostalgia trend.

The MSLPA report confirms that Cavan Sullivan's (15 years) guaranteed salary is $364,000/year with his new contract in 2024. That surpasses the record salary for a Homegrown Player in MLS, which until now was held by Julian Hall ($167,685/year).

Which 15 year old is more likely to make the 2026 roster, Cavan Sullivan or Mathis Albert?

    https://www.givemesport.com/inside-the-fallout-between-jim-curtin-and-philadelphia-union/

Another was the delicate handling to develop 15-year-old academy product Cavan Sullivan, who will join Manchester City when he turns 18. While Tanner was in Europe this summer, Curtin elevated Sullivan to be always be in first team training. It was something Tanner wasn’t aware of as it happened. He wasn’t against Sullivan’s elevation to the first team, but it highlights the fact the two weren’t speaking to each other or collaborative.

Curtin cited Sullivan’s handling of the jump up to MLS Next Pro with the Union’s second team. That messaging irked the front office, as Curtin dismissed other performances from Union II players by saying the jump from MLS Next Pro to MLS is steep.

Is Cavan Sullivan even the best 15 year old prospect the US has... he wasn't nominated for young player of the year like Mathis Albert

I don't know but I love the idea that both will be pushing each other like Donovan and Dempsey did. Pulisic needs that foil but there's no one equivalent at the moment.

They're both great prospects. There are other intriguing prospects in that U17 pool too. Julian Hall may be on the bench for NYRB for the MLS Cup final. He was on the bench last week.

There are a lot of good prospects that are not making as much of a noise as those two

Do we need a thread title change to "Could Mathis Albert be our Lamine Yamal"?

    Neither are Yamine Lamal.

    There, we said it. :)

Yamine Lamal is a totally different animal.

Its still a delusion to think either are going to be on the WC26 roster.
Or any member of our current U17s. Heck, there may not be any of the current U20s that make the roster. Cole Campbell, Noahkai Banks, Diego Kochen, and those guys have the best chance. But they're still uncapped too.

But we're fans, we're allowed to be delusional. We're allowed to dream.

Any dual nat concerns with Mathis Albert? Vaguely digging around, sounds like he might be one, others would know far better than me, my concern is pretty simple, right now he looks like one of the two best prospects bubbling up since the Pulisic/Reyna era.

    France.

I've heard he's pretty solid for the US anyway, and then there's also just a massive amount of competition with France.

We've talked about it, but there's never been any evidence that there should be a concern.
Just like Pulisic and Reyna were dual-nationals, and we talked about their status too.

Mathis is a good 'ole tri-national.
He\'s eligible for France and Germany.
His father is French and his mother is German-American.

................Its not a concern until the day you hear they've been contacted. Then #dualnationalpanic sets in.

If we're developing talent like we want to be, we should EXPECT other nations to come calling.
Just like Croatia contacted Pulisic. Just like a bunch of nations contacted Gio Reyna (who was eligible for Argentina, Portugal, and England).

I'd give Campbell the best odds from our U-20s. Playing at the highest level of anyone at that age group, and plays a position where we're lacking in depth and where it's comparatively easy for young players to make an impact.
