Probably more Olympics. If he makes it in 2026 it will be more as an end of the roster guy.

I'm talking about the overall package not just performance on the field. Call me cynical but I just don't think the powers that be will miss this opportunity if he's even close to good enough to sniff the WC roster especially is its expanded

I don’t think Pochettino is putting anyone on his roster for that reason.

It'll be impossible to prove either way but, if you think the "reason" I am implying is he will make the team undeservedly then yes I obviously agree with that. But if he's justifiable good enough he has a lot going in his favor. Again impossible to prove either way but I am excited if it does happen

I’m just saying I don’t think anyone is going to come to Pochettino and tell him who to put on his roster. Like previous USMNT coaches the decision will entirely be up to him. Even when it was a poor decision like cutting Landon Donovan (and the players went to Gulati to try and get him to reverse).

If Cavan Sullivan is deserving he’ll make it but it’s not going to be for commercial reasons.

yeah if he is good enough but with him being so far from it now you could say the same about anyone in theory.

    its a silly discussion

'if player x is good enough in two years could he make the 26 wc roster?'...uh yeah obviously

I’m starting to think this kid might be able to play a little bit.

Maybe not great, but better than competition.

Pretty good production, but the low number of minutes is an issue.

He's played a lot more minutes than that this season.
Played in a bunch of competitions with their U17s, etc. like the Generation Adidas Cup.
[Where Philly has been back-to-back Champions in that age group]

Minutes aren't an issue. This is probably the last year he plays in those types of tournaments with kids his own age, though.

And if anything you don’t want to overload the minutes that young.

He’s been injured a good amount too though.

I think he might have been overloaded, given his time out with injuries.

How much of that are actual serious injuries versus just being careful with him? There seems like there’s maybe been a minor knock here or there but nothing more than that in terms of why he’s missed time.

Its been fine. The injuries have been minor.

And we don't have to go crazy about minutes for a 14 or 15-year-old like we do with a 21-year-old like Gio Reyna.

I remember the days when this board used to lament how many meaningless games and youth tournaments kids of this age play in this country. That for this age we'd like fewer games, but more important games.

[It used to be that kids of this age would just play these Dallas Cup-type of tournaments with 5 or 6 games in a short span. Over and over all spring/summer.]

That’s like AAU basketball, which is part of why the best players in the world tend to be old Americans and young Europeans.

Indeed. Playing up a cycle. Still only 14 and this is his first call-up to the U17s.
