    Hi-
wanted to see if other fans traveling to CR have a pre-game function plan, at a certain bar, or is tailgating an option?
    thanks!

Unless someone knows of something better, what say we all gather by the Intercontinental Hotel Pool for some pre-game fun? The match is at 8:30 so we could do it kind of like we did the day before the match in Mexico City.

I would rather find someplace in town though b/c that way we could soak, up more of the pre-match atmosphere.

    wassup guys....!

there is an american bar called MACS, it is located in Sabana sur, it's like 20-30 minutes away from the stadium, a taxicab from the stadium will cost between 2500-3000 colones, that is like 5 or 6 american dollars
There are also lots of american Casinos if you guys feel like gambling

    $1 = 487 colones
    $10 = 4870 colones
    $100 = 48700 colones
....i think you guys got it!

I live 15 minutes away from the stadium so if somebody needs some extra help feel free to contact me, I hope all of you have a good trip, and i also hope your team loses...J/K, anyway we are both qualified!!!

    Thanks for the tips!

Has CR already qualified though? I'm pretty sure y'all have to win one more so I wouldn't expect this match to be taken lightly by either side (one team trying to ensure qualification, the other with players looking for roster spots).

we are 99.9% qualified, so this will probably end in a 1-0, 0-1 or 1-1

    They even have a website:
    http://www.macsamericanbar.com/

It looks like a pretty cool sports bar. Nice looking menu. They have Dish and DirectTV, so maybe they will have MLS games?? Any one want to second my nomination to make this the 'offical' BigSoccer pregame meeting place?

I'm in. MoRado, is this place gonna be difficult to find? I am not sure what my plans are right now - I might stay at the IC or I might stay at a friend's house outside of SJ.

No, it's pretty easy to find...it's close to La contraloria and Oficentro, every taxi driver in san Jose knows how to get there.

It is In sabana sur, 200 mts East from La Contraloria (pyramid shape Gov. building)
[thats how addresses are given in CR, 100 mts south from...., 200 mts north of....you'll get used to it....]

    In spanish

"dos cientos (200) metros Este de la contraloria en Sabana Sur"

The Blue Marlin at the Hotel Del Rey is a good place, too.

My vote is for Macs - we're flying in around noon-ish, so some pre-match is in order.

The Macs website even had a printable map to give to the cabbie, so even I can find the place, haha

so, I'll second (or is it third) the motion. Any objections?

    Time?

Macs it is then - I'm still trying to figure out where I'm gonna stay.

I'd like to watch some of the euro quallies - Big showdown between Holland and the Czechs - I think it will be on at 1:30 Costa Rica time.

Also, Croatia-Sweden should be on at the same time. FSC is showing Bulgaria-Hungary and Russia-Luxembourg, but hopefully Macs will be able to pull something off of PPV

All right y'all. See you at Macs then.

We'll get there a little past most of the WCQ's, but we should make it in time for a few pints (+ food) before the match. (Have to give the missus a chance to settle in before footy, 'eh - especially since we're doing a two week vacation in the country)

MoRado - appreciate your hospitality and welcome. So it's not going to be like Azteca then? It is important for the Tico's, but the locals will be kind, yes?

I was able to watch WCQ back in 2004 on Costa Rican cable. I think it was eurosport and it was in English. I'm sure you will have no problems getting a few European WCQ's.

Not sure if you were at Azteca this time round, but the locals there were very friendly. Only a few idiots gave into chanting Osama and that seemed more like mob pressure and pure stupidity than any sort of hatred.

    Count me in.
I´m in Guanacaste right now and it has been pissing down the whole time: Tropical Storm Stan apparently. I´m not expecting anything different for the remainder of my time here so I´ll probably be getting to Macs early. I´m not going to let the rain put a damper on my pre-game ritual (excuse the pun).

-Sambuka, popular latin music, $2-$3 drinks, good girls
