English players are the best in Europe at not diving. I hate the diving that goes on and the rolling around like the player has just been cut up by a chainsaw murderer. I have never felt that kind of pain on the pitch and I've torn an ACL, and broken bones.

Re: Re: Cosmi: Diving has spread to England

A few years ago Reading had a player named Tony Witter on loan. He fractured his leg during the match and played on. He even won the MOM award at the end of it.

To be honest diving has been around in England for years. There have always been forwards who are experts at winning free kicks by backing into a defender as he starts jumping, so it looks like the defender is climbing. What you didn't tend to get were the really theatrical dives you see more commonly these days, or players rolling around in mock agony when quite often there wasn't even any contact.
The sad thing is these days diving appears to be a necessary part of any striker's game, as so few refs ever give penalties unless the striker goes down. It seems that if a player stays on his feet then refs decide that it wasn't enough of a foul to merit a penalty. Also if a player stays up it gives a ref a chance to dither about making a decision or not, which often results in him delaying and giving nothing. If a player goes down then the ref is forced into making a decision one way or the other.

It really wasn't an EPL thing here until Yap Stam told of Firgie encouraging Manure players to dive.
Hardly a match goes by now without RVN going down faster than a whore's nickers. Then one Scoles tried at Anfield when it was plain that nobody got within a foot of him, Shoulda got at least a yellow for that.
The moralistic Pires earned himself a yellow for bad acting in his last CL match. while that whimp Jeffers did get a PK for the "Toe drag as you pass the goalie" routeen. Trouble was the goalie saved it.

Yes it's here and damn I wish it wasn't. The refs are often fooled and when they're not, they don't punish it.

I would say the least diving occurs in Germany. Nothing against England but i do watch alot of Arsenal. Pires and Jeffers as much as they are skilled do like to have a roll about dont they.

I’d say you are full of crap about Germany having less diving than England. Klose probably one of the worst. The German federation had to warn a few of the players and threaten them with suspension and fines. Muller being one of them. Pires and Jeffers would fit right in there.

From what I understand, in the old days in England diving wasn't necessary. Defenders just chopped strikers down like so many trees. :)
