Does anybody know the terms of Cory Gibbs contract? I'd like to know number of years, and at least base guaranteed salary. It wasn't listed in the soccer america article a few months back because it was signed around that time I think. Thanks for the help!

Think it's a league max(~$275k) contract through 2006, after which he'll move on to a bigger team in Europe.

weren't there some bigger clubs in Europe looking at him? at the very least, there were several Bundesligia teams interested, right?

I think he talked to one BL club, but came back to MLS on recommendation of Bruce to lock down place with National Team.

His contract on the cap is at or near max. Not sure what it really is.
I will ask him about length of contract.

so you think once he's locked down the spot in a few years that he might head back to Europe for better pay/competition?

Thanks for the replies! Are they going to release the salaries every year or was that just a snafu by somebody? Traditionally teams are rather tight-lipped on this sort of thing.

It's very hard to say so much can happen in a few years.

The last one was leaked to Soccer American by someone in the players union or associated with the players if I am recalling correctly. I doubt it will happen again a lot of people were angry about it on both sides.

We're paying him at least double what he was making in the Bundesliga, so he'd better perform very well for us if he wants to use us as a stepping stone for a bigger paycheck.

Could he have gotten the same kind of money elsewhere (including other MLS teams)? if not, then why are we paying above market value for him?

MLS negotiates the contracts, not the Burn, so yes he could have gotten the same from any MLS team. We weren't the only ones interested, we were just the first in line based on the league's allocation rules.

Cbus for sure would have taken him at that price.
