If you think that is bad.. Try being the governor of WA. WA was the first state to be a hotspot, yet he bent the curve a week ago, and shipped out 400 ventilators over the weekend to other states.. Yet, he gets no respect.
Basically throwing high numbers around (1-2 million) when Trump finally understood (for 2 or 3 days) the dimension of this catastrophe, is a strategy to downplay the eventual number of deaths. “OK, 500k people died but remember, it could have been millions, if not for my decisive actions and great leadership! Don’t believe the Fake News!!” On a related note, my friend forwarded this to me, from his Trumpian circle: So yeah, revisionism is just around the corner...
Were doing well here in BC too, just to your North. Was terrified of your outbreak given how much travel and business we share, we seemed to have avoided any issues. Kind of amazing in hindsight.
Dr Haseltine addressing Trump and Laura Ingrams Quack Cure. Dr. William Haseltine, a biologist renowned for his work in confronting the HIV/AIDS epidemic, fighting anthrax and advancing our knowledge of the human genome, told Fox News on Monday that an unproven drug treatment for the new coronavirus hyped by President Donald Trump was a “quack cure.””It’s sad to me that people are promoting that drug. We know already from studies at best it will have a very mild effect — at very best,” Haseltine told Fox News host Dana Perino about hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malarial drug that Trump has repeatedly promoted against the advice given by Dr. Anthony Fauci. And more. https://www.rawstory.com/2020/04/to...yped-by-trump-is-complete-and-utter-nonsense/
I’m sorry to hear that. If she’s on her way out, I wish her a quick trip surrounded by personnel who can help manage pain and provide her as much comfort as possible.
I'm talking about people *while they are in the hospital*. Their condition gets upgraded, family members make optimistic statements about how they're steadily improving; and then suddenly everything goes to shit and they die. It seems to be a common feature with COVID-19.
I forgot the other side: “Even guys killling themselves are being counted as COVID19 fatalities!!” Tucker Carlson suggests the death count for the Coronavirus is inaccurate because of an agenda with journalists working with numbers pic.twitter.com/ZArK7SjDwQ— Acyn (@Acyn) April 8, 2020
Of that, I certainly agree. I was just speaking to the idea that BoJo was all fine, but went to the hospital only to 'suddenly' take a turn for the worse the exact moment he walked through the door. He went to the hospital (almost certainly) because he was deteriorating at home. If he was recovering well at home (he was there for 10 days with the virus), he wouldn't have headed to the hospital in the first place.
If my house was a social isolation reality television show, I guarantee you that the world would need to adopt a 1 child policy to make sure the next generation had more than zero children. This show would prevent more pregnancies than all forms of birth control combined. I (or rather, my children) could solve the climate crisis and ruin social security in a month.
Yeah, our governor is kicking ass. But remember it was the Bay Area mayors who got together and first started the distancing and stay home orders, and the governor gave the order for the whole state two days later.
Na, it is always going to be in the present. Remember, even after Nixon resigned, he still has something like 27% approval.
This virus is completely predictable. In fact it was predicted. Heck, Bill Gates gave a TEDtalk about it.
I'm hearing a lot more about post-stay-at-home divorces than post-stay-at-home babies. I'm kind of glad my wife is working in Reno so we can think of each other fondly instead of dealing with the reality of being cooped up in the same house for months.
I'd say the relationships that can't survive this quarantine were probably on shaky ground to begin with.
My wife and kid and I are doing surprisingly well, but I've gotta say it's probably improved by my still having to work full time, if we were all here 24/7 that might not be the case.
A lot of shaky ground can be masked by one or both partners being elsewhere for eight or ten hours a day.
https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/07/us/detroit-nurses-sinai-grace-coronavirus/index.html Nurses at a Detroit hospital refused to work unless more nurses were brought in. The hospital administrators said no, and many of them walked out.
