I thinks it inevitable for a large portion of the population myself. Around the globe. I'm not worried about the death rate, as it's quite low. But, my biggest concerns are. 1. Is this going to trigger a massive, global recession? 2. The infection rate seems incredibly high 3. Potential issues around reinfection (that's my biggest concern right now). The first documented reinfection has already happened in Japan. Now, that is concerning.
So let's put the anti-science nutjob in charge of leading the fight against the coronavirus. Great, just fking great. We're all doomed and I blame all the fking idiots who voted these guys in office.
For certain. I can accept getting this once. I'm not elderly, not sickly, don't have any respiratory issues, I am highly likely to be fine. But repeatedly? No I'm not up for that.
This is one of several reasons why to vote for a technocrat rather than a populist. I mean, the populist would be OK if he had high-quality staffers who could find top people for the agencies and who would maintain an atmosphere of professionalism. But that generally won't happen with populists, certainly not this one.
From what I've heard, 40 to 70% infection rate with 1-2% of those dying from it... IOW... 3 to 5 billion would get it, with between 30 to 100 million deaths...
Meanwhile, our country doesn't care that 10,000+ have died from the flu. But let's move all of our focus and assets to the Coronavirus instead.
Dude, the government of Iran would not like your postings. You definitively need to fact check your own numbers. Wuhan has a population of 11 million, we obviously do not know how many have been infected, but your numbers would mean that there have to be at least 3 million infected people.
Right now, in most of the world outside of China, yes, you are more likely to die from the flu. People should get their flu shots, stay home if sick, wash hands frequently and thoroughly with warm water and soap, and petition the government to require ALL employers to provide paid sick leave so that people aren't forced to go into work when sick just so they can afford to pay their bills. But Coronavirus deserves significant focus and assets. Right now, it's looking like it is 2-3 times more deadly than influenza. There has been at least one confirmed case of an incubation period of over 3 weeks, and it can be spread before symptoms appear. So somebody with the virus could be walking around for 2-3 weeks without knowing it while spreading the virus. It's going to be nearly impossible to contain.
How many were infected though? The COVID death rate, while low, still much bigger than the more common strains of influenza.
You ignore the steps taken to quarantine. The city basically shut down for weeks. People were confined to their homes. Public transit stopped in full. Are Westerners ready for such measures?
Not to worry, the mortality rate is only running at 2%. About the same as the Spanish Flue that killed 50 million or so. But only some 375k Americans
Some fact checks, first about CDC funding https://apnews.com/d36d6c4de29f4d04beda3db00cb46104 Here is a fact check on Trump newspress. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...-amid-first-case-community-spread/4883728002/ As more cases are being diagnosed, the mortality rate is getting lower (as the divisible gets bigger). https://www.cbsnews.com/live-update...ll-infections-latest-news-updates-2020-02-25/
I saw this bit of news this morning and found it wild and a sign that the knock on effect the virus will have on the global economy hasn't really been felt yet. Not to mention if things get worse. arstechnicalink … I guess I could have put this link in the global warming thread as a bit of good news.
40-70% of the people would get it, just not simultaneously. So in theory, over a 3 or 4 year period, yes, 3 million people would get it and about 30,000 would die. Off course we need to factor in other developments, like maybe having a vaccine in a year, or having sick days off after 2021, or having adequate health insurance. if the free market allows us such luxuries.
These are the two things that are gonna make it so bad in the USA. In normal places, if you're sick you stay home. That's patently just not true here because there's no paid sick leave. And also for cultural reasons. And in normal places, if you're sick you got to the doctor. For tens of millions of people, that's not a possibility because of the Republican Party. So hospitals are going to get overwhelmed in a hurry.
It would vary by state. Remember, red states don't want people to have insurance and rural hospitals are closing!!! Sh!t, I live in a red state, but at least the county heavily subsidize the public hospital network.
Might be a good time to invest with big pharma. They won’t be giving away any antivi. They will get richer.
When the global food supply chain breaks down I plan on making a mint selling venison for Russian caviar prices.
