Has Corey Gibbs ever been invited to a USMNT camp? I've not seen him play with St. Pauli, but from what I hear he is starting and making an impact, so maybe he'd be a worthy option.
He was supposed to be in the US camp for the Germany friendly last March but was injured while playing for St. Pauli. He was in camp for the Canada friendly, but knew he would be going back to Germany before the actual game. So Bruce has had him in camp, but he has yet to be capped.
If Gibbs can find a way back into B1 (currently in B2, on his way to B3), then he will definitely be in the pool. Perhaps he could come back to MLS and should he play well, will definitely get a look.
I doubt MLS will be able to offer a deal good enough to entice Gibbs to come back. He signed with St. Pauli for a rumored 270K/yr., he's essentially considered a Bundesliga veteran(having played one whole season in the Bundesliga), and the best 2nd division Bundesliga teams can pay $300-600K/season.
yea but if st pauli falls to d3 <which looks pretty good right now> you gotta think they will not be able to afford some of the players saleries, corey's included...a sale to a B1 or B2 teams is possible, anyone know how many years his contract was for?
Olaf's stated that his contract would still be valid in d3. However, you could be correct in that they would not be able to afford him. I think it's doubtful that he returns to MLS though--Germans are big on athletic, relatively young(23) and cheap defenders who have a lot of upside.
