dates are out for the Coppa final legs vs Juventus.. March 17 at the Olimpico May 12 at Juve.. rather be home for second leg, hate that the matches are so far apart...
Having the two games so far apart has always puzzled me. Anyone know what strength team Juve are likely to field.
It rather depends on whether they survive the CL tie with Deportivo (second leg is the previous mid-week) along with the outcome of the Juventus-Milan match on Mar 14 which shapes up as being critical to Juve's scudetto hopes. If they win that match AND are onto the CL quarterfinals, Juventus will likely field a B squad in the first leg.
before we get to the derby there is the Coppa final first leg today... Claudio Lopez is not available and Juve will be without Trezeguet and Del Piero....should be interesting. I expect an open affair as neither side is top level defensively...
Bit of interesting trivia from Lazio Official Site LAZIO ALWAYS SCORES IN COPPA ITALIA HOME GAMES Lazio hasn't drawn a Coppa Italia home game since March 1998. From then on the biancocelsti won 16 games and lost 2 and the team always scored in the last 23 encounters.
Well, According to Lazio's website we won 2-0 despite Cesar's penatly miss in the first half. I know Buffon is between the sticks, but we need SOMEONE to take the damn penalties who can make them. Perhaps Fiore should do it, since he scored the two goals in the game. With his current form, I hope he's going to get a starring role in Italy's midfield this year. Aside from him and Pirlo, no one's really been too impressive this year. But back to the result - the problem with playing these game so far apart is that we have no idea what Juve's form will be like for the second leg. But with a 2 goal advantage and no away goals allowed, we're in good shape. Now, lets hope this form carries over into this weekend. We need this game to hold on to 4th place. Plus - its Roma. There's only one team in all of the world of sports I dislike more than Roma, so I REALLY want this one.
just what the dr. ordered in the first leg, a nice 2-0 win. listened online to most of it, Cesar did miss the PK...the revolving door for that job should continue. Fiore was very strong, his second goal was a scissor kick...anxious to see the highlights tonight. Curious that Sereni played in goal, sounded like Stam (as usual) and Oddo had solid games...
Re: Well, Actually, Chimenti was in goal for Juventus. Ouch. It was a piss-poor PK. Weak along the ground to the left. Chimenti guessed right (and right) and stopped it pretty easily.
Re: Re: Well, Yeah, I saw that afterward. I don't recall Chimenti being known for his PK prowess. Why don't Fiore or Mihajlovic take them? How much worse could they be? Btw, why in the world would you have Chimenti in goal in the only competition you have a shot at winning this year? You're almost certainly not catching Milan, out of the CL, so now is the time to rest Buffon? I don't get it.
well, here we go...the second leg is tomorrow with Lazio up 2-0. Juve once again has some selection problems: http://www.soccerage.com/en/13/u8977.html For Lazio our one chance at some glory this season....and a ticket into the SuperCoppa come August. I expect one of Lazio's best matches of the season tomorrow...
I'm not going to comment on our league form, because everything having to do with the CL is painful these days (see: Chelsea), but I REALLY want to win this. I know, its not that big a deal in Italy, but I think it would be nice to come away with something, especially in a year full of so much disappointment and worry over our finances. I think we'll see a draw tomorrow, but that's all that's necessary. A lone Lazio goal effectively settles this fixture.
A good end to a pretty good season. Lazio came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 in Torino, giving us a 4-2 win on aggregate. Corradi and Fiore (again!) scored the goals. At least we won something Also, its worth saying again - Fiore should play at this year's European Championships. Aside from Pirlo, I don't think another Italian midfielder is having a better season. Especially one who can play wide.
Congrats to Lazio and their supporters, especially the ones on BS. From what I have read on BS, winning the Coppa Italia is not on the same level as hoisting the English FA Cup, but hey, it's still a trophy that some other club didn't win.
I've always been surprised the that Coppa wasn't a bigger deal in Italy....still, its nice to win a trophy. Lazio is short on depth and certainly money but Mancini has forged a team with pretty good fighting spirit. Yes, Fiore's been our MVP and deserves to play in Euro04. Here's hoping the SuperCoppa is played in NY again!....
