    Coppa Italia - 2nd Phase

    Draw for the second round of the Coppa Italia. The first leg is Sept 25-26, the return leg on Oct 24. All kickoffs Eastern Daylight time.

    Wed Sept 25
    Sampdora vs Atalanta 12 noon
    Ternana vs Piacenza 2:30 pm
    Ancona vs Brescia 2:45 pm
    Bari vs Udinese 12 noon
    Empoli vs Torino 12 noon
    Vicenza vs Parma 9:30 am
    Triestina vs Como 2:00 pm

    Thu Sept 26
    Reggina vs Modena - 9:30 am

    Wonder if Fox Sports Worldl will be showing any Coppa games again. Nothing on their current viewing schedule for Sept 25-26 but no live events either, so they could squeeze them in, if they have the rights.

    Looks like RAI International will be showing the Coppa this year. Three games this week:-

    Sept 25
    9:35 am (right now) - Vicenza-Parma
    12 NOON - Sampdoria-Atalanta

    Sept 26
    12:45 pm - Empoli-Torino

    The date of that last game doesn't match what I have above, but it probably got changed.

    My team Parma just went down to the Serie B side, Vicenza 2-0. Very disappointing effort indeed.

    Need to bounce back in the upcoming Serie A matches to keep the confidence levels up.

    Welcome to the boards, mattyc.

    Yes, sounds like it was a weak performance by the holders. Did you catch the starting line-up? I don't see it anywhere. Normally, Parma gives this competition a lot of emphasis, but with two important matches coming us (Sunday, vs Juventus and next week the 2nd leg vs CSKA), they might've rested some starters.

    Just checked the official site, which states that
    the lieup that took the pitch was
    Taffarel;
    Diana, Cannavaro, Siviglia, Junior;
    Marchionni, Barone, Filippini, Bresciano;
    Bonazzoli, Gilardino

    Frey, Oyola, Gresko, Donati, Brighi, Nakata, Adriano.

    All in all the upcoming match against Juventus probbly was in the back of the coaches and players minds but still, 2-0 to Vicenza is a fairly mediocre effort.

    I would have settled for a 1-1 draw.

    Two more finals and two more wins for Serie B teams over Serie A (I think these are final scores):

    Bari 4 Udinese 1
    Sampdoria 1 Atalanta 0

    By the way, here are the matchups for the next round shapes up, when the big boys join in:

    Reggina/Modena vs Juventus
    Samp/Atalanta vs Perugia
    Ternana/Piacenza vs Chievo
    Ancona/Brescia vs Milan
    Bari/Udinese vs Inter
    Empoli/Torino vs Lazio
    Vicenza/Parma vs Bologna
    Triestina/Como vs Roma

    Well, Parma are eliminated from the Coppa Italia, which is pretty poor considering the team we played, but time to focus on the Serie A.

    All the scores from Wednesday:

    Piacenza 2 Ternana 0 (3-1 aggregate)
    Brescia 1 Ancona 3 (2-4 aggregate)
    Como 0 Triestina 2 (0-3 aggregate)
    Parma 2 Vicenza 1 (2-3 aggregate aet)
    Atalanta 1 Sampdoria 1 (1-2 aggregate)
    Udinese 1 Bari 0 (2-4 aggregate)

    Piacenza the only Serie A team to survive against a Serie B opponent. Today's matchups are all-Serie A affairs. I think this shows how weak the bottom half of Serie A is this season. Some of it is these teams know they have to save their main effort for the inevitable relegation struggle. But man... too bad Eddy Baggio doesn't play with Ancona anymore. That would've been interesting.

    mattyc, Parma NEARLY pulled off their usual 2nd-leg escape, but gave up the losing goal in extra time. It is an awful result, given that Vicenza is in LAST place in B.
