My Libertadores post HAS BENN VINDICATED. What I wanted has come true...kind of.

Actually Ive found some info. The new South American Championship run by Comebol will include a preliminary phase where 12 Brazilian Clubs play in 4 groups of 3. The 4 group chance move on in the Cup to play the other South American teams which include 7 Argentinan teams and 2 from all other nations.

    Games start in July.

Here are the 4 Brazilian Groups, on 2 games per team in this round:

Grupo 1: Flamengo, Internacional e Santos
    Santos x Internacional
    Internacional x Flamengo
    Flamengo x Santos.

    Grupo 2: Corinthians, Atlético-MG e Fluminense
    Corinthians x Atlético-MG
    Atlético-MG x Fluminense
    Fluminense x Corinthians

Grupo 3: Grêmio, São Paulo e Vasco
    Grêmio x São Paulo
São Paulo x Vasco da Gama
    Vasco da Gama x Grêmio

Grupo 4: São Caetano, Palmeiras e Cruzeiro
    São Caetano x Palmeiras
    Palmeiras x Cruzeiro
    Cruzeiro x São Caetano

Looks like several former Brazilian champions.

Brazil had (do we still have?) a tournament between all the former Brazilian champions in addition to all the other championships going on.

Frankly it seems like yet another unneeded addition to an already overcrowded calendar.

And of course... mods, can this be moved to CONMEBOL?

Copa Sudamerica was played last year for the first time, Brazilian clubs did not participate. San Lorenzo are the defending champs. The winner of this tourney meets the Libertadores winner.
