I was wondering if this is correct.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copa_Sudamericana_2008

is that another tournament to add to our plate and did we qualify already since the Concacaf tournament is changing it format next fall (2008-2009)

I wouldn't count on anything you read in wikipedia.

The official CSF site doesn't yet have any announcements about the final field for the 2008 Copa Sudamericana.

Here's a page in English that has the current list of participating teams for the 2008 Copa Sudamericana - scroll down the right hand column. More teams will be added.

The regulations for the tournament that are currently on the site are for 2007. They'll post the rules and format for 2008 at some point.

Just for grins - here's the list of participating teams from 2007.

On the COMEBOL boards they mention that there's 99.9 chance of having an MLS team in the Copa Nissan, but not until 2009 at the earliest.

Copa SudAmerica would be nice, but considering the new CCL format that would defiantly be the point that I'd want to dump SuperLiga. Throw in a Libertadores spot and I'd set the SuperLiga trophy on fire myself.

But now I'm waaaay out in left field...

The problem with Libertadores is that according to CONCACAF rules you can´t choose Libertadores over CONCACAF´s champions league, which are played more or less on the same time period, so, sadly MLS champions wil not play Libertadores, that honor when the time comes (and I´m sure is just a matter of waiting a few years) will be for the runner up.

The MLS champions will have to play SUDAMERICANA, in other words, we will do the exact opposite of SA teams.

Interesting. I need to follow that up.

It raises an even more interesting question: what happens to the spot that's been going to Mexico. Are they not going to be sending a team anymore. Boy, if that's the case there's going to be some people pissed all to hell off over this. (SUM for loosing all that InterLiga money, FMF fans for loosing the spot, ...) If you're reading the rules correctly, and I'm not saying you're not, expect a rules change to "fix" that.

Here are the participating teams from the Libertadores in 2007 - click here for English - Mexico had three spots, but if you look at the footnotes, only one of the MFL spots is an automatic qualifier from the main domestic tournaments. The other two are from the InterLiga.

Oh, I knew about the one, but I forgot the others were from InterLiga. Now that you mention it I remeber reading that last year, but considering InterLiga fell completely off radar this year I haven't thought much about it. Thanks for the info.

I forgot, runner up will not be able to get the Libertadores spot, champion and runner up will have to attend CCL, which means they will need to find another way to decide on that spot just like the MFL does.
