São Paulo has 9 days before its first leg match with Cruzeiro. Cruzeiro, too, is off until then - plenty of time to rest and to recuperate. Corinthians likewise has no matches until its visit to Guarani. Internacional and Atlético Mineiro have no matches this week but they did play yesterday and will play again on Sunday, in the return leg of the finals of their respective state tournaments. The first match will be in Belo Horizonte, so Internacional will have a bit of traveling to do before the first leg.

There is no break in the leagues of Uruguay, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, and Argentina. There will be upcoming league fixtures on Sunday, May 3. Therefore, São Paulo, Cruzeiro, and Corinthians will be the best-rested teams when the May 5-7 fixtures start. They would be wise to use the rest, because on May 10th, the 2015 Brazilian premiership starts.

Sante Fe got the all important road goal in a 2-1 loss. Next week's match in Bogota should be fantastic.

Tigres did what they had to do to get into the next round. Not as impressive as some are making them out to be but still got the job done.

I saw a bit of the second half between Tigres and Universitario and was taken aback to see Tigres trailing 0-1, with a very early goal. Tigres did secure it with that PK goal. First in the quarterfinals.

    1. Corinthians' goalkeeper admitted they were overconfident. Moreover, they've been going downhill since they beat Danubio 4-0. They have won 1 game of their past 7 since then (a 1-0 win against Ponte Preta during which Ponte Preta had a legal goal wrongfully disallowed). They were eliminated by Palmeiras, on PKs and at home, after a 2-2 draw in the state tournament semifinals. Some of their players, like Luciano, did not produce last night. And finally, their keeper made an awful mistake in the first goal.

    2. Centurião has been an asset for us; he has tons of energy and is aggressive. He has apparently finally begun to feel “at home” as of late given he stated that he missed Argentina and that he was struggling to adapt to life in Brazil. Too bad for you Correndo doesn’t have him, but I’m glad São Paulo does.

    3. Internacional may well be a dark horse. Not only did they win their group, they're the 3rd best group stage team, they only lost 1 game (against O Mais Forte in the Andean heights) and they've gone 16 games unbeaten. With Lisandro Lopes, they may well make some noise this year.
