Actually no, I have seen enough to know that he isn't the solution that Brazil needs. He only came here to sabotage Brazil's chances of winning the World Cup.

    lol .. no.

Renato Gaucho is broken mentally. Dude can't hear a few criticisms before quitting nowadays.

People forget he has a 25 year career coaching. Has won very little.

Fair enough, I'm probably misremembering the timing of the chances before the goal. But that momentum graph is very damning. In the end it's Ancelotti's fault for bringing him on, but anyone who put pressure to have him on the team is to blame too (I mean real instituional pressure, not just fan noise).

Nowhere did he say Neymar isn't a genius.

In fact he pretty clearly said Neymar is the last genius we have.

So if you're going to argue, argue against what was said, not a ghost you made up.

It's fair to say Neymar did not reach what was expected of him with the national team. Maybe you think the "didn't come close" qualifier is too far. If so, fine, but you could also put it down to hyperbole.

Neymar only ever won one thing with the senior national team: the 2013 Confederations Cup. I recognize how important the olympic gold medal is, but that's not a senior title. Mind you, I've hoped for the gold medal since at least the 1996 olympics (before that I was too young to really follow closely).

It's something of an indictment of him that the one Copa América we won during his time came after he was cut due to injury. Maybe it's unfair that the injuries always came at the worse time. Maybe it's unfair that the expectations were so high. The fact he stayed in Brazil longer was great, but it inflated expectations along with his celebrity. He is easily the biggest celebrity in Brazil and transcends the sport.

But it's not wrong to say he didn't reach expectations.

As for the goals, one day that record will be broken. That's how it works. We play more and more matches now and player careers go on longer and longer. Unless the calendar is magically shortened in our lifetime or national team football ends, that record will be broken.

Anyways, the person you replied to very clearly said Neymar is a genius. "our fabrica de genios... ends with Neymar". So next time try to understand what was said before getting upset over someone's opinion.

Yep. When I saw the momentum shift graph I went back and looked at the highlights and those two plays did happen before those subs were made. To be fair, those two plays happened in quick succession at the 65th minute mark and like a couple of mins before the subs are made. So it could have been just a blip in momentum if the subs weren't made. There is definitely truth in saying Norway dominated more once Neymar came in and for the next 12 mins until they scored.

The chances are at 8:40 mark in the clip. If you have the stomach to watch it. :ROFLMAO:

And if circumstances were to include Ancelotti leaving, I would still favor Abel Ferreira over Renato Portaluppi.

Well, in Neymar's defense, he did play a significant role in Brazil ending its decades-long Olympic gold drought. The Olympic gold medal is not as important as the World Cup, but it was the only title Brazil lacked, and Neymar did contribute, including the 5th and final PK in that shootout.

As much as I disagreed with Neymar being part of the 2026 World Cup squad, I would argue that the pressure on him was greater because he was a standout in his generation. His safra followed that of Ronaldo Assis and Kaká, and before these two, we had Ronaldo and Rivaldo, and before that, we had Romário. The backdrop into which Neymar's international career kicked off was the post-2010 World Cup scenario, and with the next World Cup scheduled to be held in Brazil, there was enormous pressure on the team for the hexa to be won at home in large part to redeem 1950.

If Neymar, despite his off-the-pitch antics, had been nothing but hyper-professional when playing, with restrained and prudent behavior while also maximizing his efforts to remain as fit as possible (diet, personal trainers, anything that he needed given his fortune) and Brazil still failed to win the World Cup during his playing days, I would say the bashing of Neymar would have been less intense. In a way, he ruined or at least damaged his own image via his behavior, despite him having played great futebol in Santos, Barcelona, and even in PSG (albeit to a lesser extent) while also contributing to the 2016 Olympic title and the 2023 Confeds.

Ronaldo and Romário especially were by no means timid in showing the world they enjoyed the company of beautiful women, but when it came to futebol, they did their part. Ronaldo had that horrifying injury but he did what he needed to return and ele deu a volta por cima in the greatest possible fashion. I would say most fans would not have cared that Neymar got involved in that short-lived scandal with that Instagram "model" who accused him of beating her after he had a one-night affair with her because Neymar pessoa isn't Neymar the soccer player.

I dare say that the Olympics rank even lower than the Confederations Cup, at least most teams send a squad of pretty good senior players to the Confed Cup. Only Brazil and some African countries rank the Olympics as of any importance. Yeah, I get it, a gold medal looks nice on the trophy shelf, but most Brazilians didn't even watch a minute of the gold medal game (myself included). Neymar's trophy shelf looks dismal especially when taking into account the hopes the nation had for him.

    Disagree.
That Gold medal game in 2016 was massively watched by the whole nation, given that it was in Brazil and on the most historic stadium against a nation that 2 years prior, 7-1'd the senior team in a WC semi. But also to be fair, it was the only match I watched.

Finally rewatched the game. Thought we were a bit better in the 1st half. But nah ... it was also bad. Ancelotti was clearly afraid of Norway's long balls to Haaland. I get it ... but at some point, you have to put pressure on your opponent and test them out.

In the second half not much changed. Very passive all around. When Endrick came in, we had a good spell of 3-4 mins or so starting with his miss. And it looked like we were gonna go for it. But then we settled back in. Don't know how things would have been otherwise, but Neymar coming in didn't really make things worse ... but nor did it make it better. We had a couple of ventures into attack with Neymar on, which doesn't show up in the momentum swing chart for whatever reason, but then they scored the goal.

I know it was humid out there, but you have to up the tempo for some period during the game. We never did that. It was played at a snails pace by both teams. Awful game compared to what's being shown in the tournament.

We didn't deserve to go through and honestly, and it probably saved some humiliating defeat down the road. My gut feeling wasn't wrong pre-tournament and throughout. This team just really had no chance. Many tried to will it by saying we were progressing. Nonsense. Even against Haiti and Scotland it was subpar displays.

I know the talent just isn't there at the moment ... but I am also not optimistic about Ancelotti. Let's be honest, he has always been a reactive coach. Even when he had great players at his disposal. The way he won those two last CL's with Madrid were extremely fortunate (not to say na cagada). And his last season at Madrid he got slapped around by Barca left and right. And I don't see him changing. So get ready for 4 years of this type of futbol. Unless he gets fired.

Nah. Overhit an easy pass to the middle. Old legs. And look at what he does here in the last play of the match. Clear pass for Endrick who could have been 1v1 vs the defender and this idiot crosses the ball right into the GKs hand.

    And just to add ...

    - In 2018 I was like .. OK, it's Belgium's golden generation. KdB, Haazard, Lukaku .. solid all around. Plus we got some bad breaks in the game. Happens.

    - In 2022 ... there was less excuse. An already old Croatia. But you could still say they were tough to beat and again ... they caught a break.

    - This time around ... I can't even excuse anything. Just plain bad against a team that IMO, is good but doesn't stack up to what we lost to in 18 and 22.

First time I am a bit afraid we may really fall into middle of the pack mediocrity.

Celito, Who would have us play the most entertaining and attacking football ⚽️? I can take losing if we at least look great doing it. That might be the only way we recover our identity. Não quero ganhar o Hexa na porrada feito um Paraguay

Honestly can't really thing of anyone. Not even sure that (1) we have enough raw material to build something and (2) what "entertaining" football would look like in our case.

    Lets be honest, please.
Neymar is a largely selfish person. Only Neymar knew the level of his injury and his physical wellbeing. Neymar should have long ago resigned from the Brazil national team (maybe after his injury against Uruguay?). At the very least Neymar should have excluded himself from Brazil when the popular and media hype about his inclusion in the final 26 for 2026 was reaching a crescendo. He did not do it because he is selfish and that is very sad. A mature well centered person would have known what to do.

100 percent! He had multiple chances to win a WC, he took a spot from Joao Pedro, who will not exactly an awesome player, would have least contributed more.

    I disagree.

Our archrivals Argentina also wanted the Olympic gold medal. They reached the 1996 final and wanted to win it; there was a chance they would have met us, but Nigeria eliminated Brazil. Then, when they won it in 2004 and 2008, they most certainly cherished it. That was one commonality between Brazil and Argentina: both entered the 21st Century with World Cup titles in their trophy cabinets but without the Olympic gold medal. After Mexico in 2012 (and the Mexicans too were quite happy to win it), Brazil had its own back-to-back Olympic championships.

Most Brazilians didn't watch a minute of the gold medal match? You can't really know that. The stadium was packed, and many watched on TV.

Well, had he done what I wrote - being extremely serious with his fitness - he might have had a clue.

If Ancelotti left and the only two choices were Abel and Renato Portaluppi, would you choose Renato? If so, why? I'm asking seriously; I know you have your assessment of Abel's work, but if you were to opt for Renato, I'm curious as to why him.

If those two were the only options in a hypothetical resignation by Ancelotti, I would not choose Renato.

What we are discussing is Why the penalty was missed, Why Endrick coudnt score etc ? But a good team should create dozens of chances and score few of them.....Just look at France's game vs Morocco...Even they missed a Penalty but still wining 2-0 . Previously Brazil used to tell the opponents "You score 2 we will score 5" Nowadays if 2/3 chances are missed we start crying / anlayzing why it was missed....Why not create more chances

Why would the choice be between Abel and Renato ?

I said no Renato. And I say no to Abel.

I would have much rather see JJ. But alas, he has now taken the Portugal job.
