Flamengo wins the first one, 2x0, with an assist and goal from Luiz Araujo. In the other games that have already wrapped up Athletico-PR also got a solid 2x0 home win over Bragantino. And CRB almost pulled off an upset over Atletico-MG. The final score was 2x2, but they went up 2x0 in the early minutes before Atl-MG got a PK and then tied in the second half. They almost turned it around but their 3rd goal was called back. The next match is in Minas.
Flamengo 2 x 0 Palmeiras - FT - 1st leg Basically what I expected when I found out Abel was going to play defensive. We don't have a counter. Depending on long balls to a bagre that can't play with the ball at his feet. Could have been 1 x 0 had Gomez not made a dumb turnover. But after that it should have been 3 or 4 for Flamengo.
The two late games were draws: Atletico-GO 1x1 Vasco Corinthians 0x0 Gremio One more match tomorrow and then the return legs next week.
Juventude 3x2 Fluminense closes out the first leg of this round. Fluminense scored first, but Juventude scored three in the second half before Fluminense got a second. So no home teams lost in this first round. 5 match-ups are tied, and 3 of them have the away team with the advantage. Thiago Silva did not play. Next week's matches Tuesday Vasco (1) x (1) Atletico-GO Wednesday Altetico-MG (2) x (2) CRB Bahia (1) x (1) Botafogo Bragantino (0) x (2) Athletico-PR Palmeiras (0) x (2) Flamengo Fluminense (2) x (3) Juventude Grêmio (0) x (0) Corinthians Thursday Goias (0) x (0) Sao Paulo - Thu
Flamengo holds on for a 2 x 1 win on aggregate. Palmeiras started off well, pressed a lot throughout the game ... but after 30 mins of play depended on long balls and crosses. Flaco scored a tying goal in the 2nd half but it was ruled offsides by a millimeter. Overall, Flamengo deservedly went through as I think they were more dominating in the 1st game compared to Palmeiras in the second creating more scoring chances. Liberta is what's left for us. Botafogo were knocked out today by Bahia.
I was worried when I found out there was an early goal. Glad we held on. Now we play Palmeiras again this weekend. It's good we advanced in the Copa but you guys have the momentum now for that match I guess. Athletico-PR also advanced today, so another Copa do Brasil match-up between Flamengo x Athletico-PR is still possible. Corinthians x Grêmio are still tied and Juventus is winning over Fluminense, who need to score 2 in the next 15 minutes to tie on aggregate.
Almost forgot the other early match today, Atletico-MG unsurprisingly won at home over CRB. Also, in yesterday's only match Vasco won at home to eliminate Atletico-GO. Fluminense did score two goals just now! But not before they gave up a second, so it wasn't enough. 2x2 at home today means they lose 4x5 overall. Grêmio x Corinthians ended 0x0 again, so they went to penalties. Hugo Souza saved one and saw Grêmio miss two others and Corinthians advance.
So that means the 7 qualified teams are: Vasco Atlético-MG Athletico-PR Bahia Flamengo Juventude Corinthians The 8th team will be confirmed tomorrow. Goiás are at home, but São Paulo with the 2x0 advantage going in should qualify.
São Paulo are through, as expected. CBF hasn't set the date for the next draw yet, but matches will be played midweek, the weeks of August 28 and September 12 (which is 2 days after World Cup qualifying in September).
The Copa do Brasil quarter-final draw will be on Tuesday at 3pm (2pm US Eastern time - good news @celito I moved back to the East Coast, so no weird PST times for you to convert from my posts). Flamengo x Athletico-PR incoming...
https://ge.globo.com/futebol/copa-d...2024-veja-jogos-das-quartas-ate-a-final.ghtml Quarters and brackets were drawn today Vasco x Athletico-PR Atletico-MG x Sao Paulo Flamengo x Bahia Corinthians x Juventude Remarkably, there cannot be a Flamengo x Athletico unless they both reach the final. Flamengo x Bahia the toughest/most even match-up based on Brasileirao standings.
Flamengo take the 1st leg away 1 x 0. But right at the end Michael pulls up with what looks like a hamstring injury. Had enough to be carried off. That's some serious bad luck. Atletico scored right at the end to take the 1st leg against São Paulo 1 x 0.
Bahia 0x1 Flamengo São Paulo 0x1 Atlético-MG Both away teams win by one goal tonight. The next match is after Brazil's World Cup qualifiers. Good advantage for Flamengo and Atlético, but it's still close. The other two matches are tomorrow.
Home teams won their matches today, 2x1 in both cases: Vasco 2x1 Athletico-PR Juventude 2x1 Corinthians Corinthians got their goal in injury time, and Athletico-PR actually scored first against Vasco. After the qualifiers, Corinthians and Athletico will be at home for the second leg.
Corinthians and Athletico-PR both won their second legs, but with different final outcomes. Corinthians won 3x1, so they qualify (4x3 on aggregate) Athletico-PR won 2x1, taking it to penalties, but Vasco won on PKs Tomorrow's matches have both home teams going in with a 1x0 advantage: Flamengo x Bahia Atletico-MG x Sao Paulo
Another 1x0 win for Flamengo means they qualify, next round is vs. Corinthians: Flamengo x Corinthians Oct 2 Corinthians x Flamengo Oct 17 (once again, right after the international break) Atlético-MG held São Paulo to 0x0, they face Vasco next: Vasco x Atlético-MG Oct 2 Atlético-MG x Vasco Oct 17
First legs today. Atético 2 x 1 Vasco ... in the 1st game of the night. Gabigol starts for Flamengo in Filipe Luis debut.
Flamengo 1 x 0 Curica - HT Flamengo looked good . High press and better movement off the ball. Faded a bit midway through the half. If Filipe Luis can show some good work in this short time frame, it's gonna make Tite look really bad.
Flamengo 1 x 0 Curica - FT Flamengo too wasteful. And one of those hairline offsides took a goal off Gabigol. Plenty of chances to wrap this thing up in the 1st game ... but the play was good. Ended up fading in the last 20 mins.
Feels like both home teams will not be satisfied with the 1 goal win. Right now both return matches are scheduled for the weekend after World Cup qualifying, not the day after, but Vasco and Corinthians wanted to appeal that scheduling change.
