Leganes is a second division team in the working class suburb (Leganes) of Madrid. 9 players born in Argentina. They must have acquired Spanish citizenship or something. They are about midtable in the second division.

Real Madrid 4 - Leganes 3 in second overtime.

Figo and Zidane were not playing and not on the bench for this game.

Ronaldo, Pavon, Salgado also started on the bench but were subbed on. Pavon came on about midway through the first half after Ruben dislocated his shoulder. Salgado replaced Minambres at right back after halftime, and Ronaldo came on for Nunez after Leganes went ahead 3-2 in the second half.

1st goal by Beckham, a free kick from about 30 meters that keeper reportedly might have done better with. 2nd goal on rebound by Raul when keeper parried a shot by Beckham.
Then a Leganes player named Borja scored two goals to tie it up before the break. First one sounds like Raul Bravo was at fault letting another Leganes player around him to cross easily to Borja. Second one was a header off a corner kick I think.

3rd goal for Leganes came off an own goal by Pavon. In the 88th minute, Real Madrid were losing 3-2. Solari tied the game with a deflected shot. And 5 minutes into the second overtime period, Roberto Carlos delivered the ball to Raul who scored the late winner for the second game in a row.

Madrid are through to the final eight.

Well...it did seem harder than it needed to be. :) I saw the goals last night-need another look/angle at Beck's freekick to judge for sure.

Considering that they haven't won this under Florentino, I wonder how hard they will push in the last rounds.

Wow, we suffered a lot yesterday. I was sure that we would lose, but thanks to the goal of solari, and later to the goal of Raul we are in the next round.

Real Ray, I think that the team will push hard in the next rounds. The big reason is as you said the it's the only throphy that Florentino hasn't won, and another reason is that it 's a trophy that many RM players, like Raul or Roberto Carlos haven't won. Raul and Roberto have said that they can win "la copa del Rey".

I personally think that it's a big risk to fight 100% to win la copa. If this team have a problem, it 's not to have many players in some positions. It is the weak point of the team. And in my opinion to fight hard to win 3 competitions (Liga, Champions and Copa del Rey) would be a great effort for the players, and we could have many players tired or with injuries at the end of the season.

The last year Del Bosque played with the youth team players, and he was terrible criticed by the spain journalist when the team lost against Mallorca.

Seeing with what players has played Queiroz this year (many first team "big" players playing this games) it seems that he want to fight to win la copa del rey.

The draw of the next round of copa del Rey has been today, this are the games:

    ATLÉTICO-DEPORTIVO
    VILLARREAL-SEVILLA
    MÁLAGA-CELTA
    EIBAR-REAL MADRID
    LEVANTE-BARCELONA
    VALENCIA-OSASUNA
    ZARAGOZA-BETIS
    ALAVÉS-VALLADOLID

A good draw for us. This round will be a two games round. That theoretically will make the round easier than the previous rounds, when you had to risk all in one game.

Definitely a good draw for the next round for Madrid. Valencia-Osasuna and Atletico-Deportivo look like some good matchups though.

Madrid certainly suffered yesterday and frankly were lucky to get the win. The defense was horrible. I was shocked particularly at the poor play of Raul Bravo, who has been doing a pretty good job this year defensively, and especially at how badly Pavon played. It's too bad Ruben had to leave the game early due to injury as it would have been nice to see him regain his confidence after the Sevilla disaster but once he came out and Pavon came in, Madrid's defense fell apart.

If they were playing a better team than Leganes, Madrid would have been beaten. I know the crunch of games is taking it's toll but this was a game Madrid should have won easily (they were leading 2-0 at one point!) and the fact they were made to go to extra time adds even more stress to the players physical condition and jeopardizes their game vs Mallorca.

I think Real finally has a BIG chance of winning la Copa del Rey.

Remember they are teamed up against Bayern Munich in the CL ... which would probably ease up their schedule towards the end.

Real will be challenger in La Liga and Copa del Rey. IMO, no Europe this year. :D
