There are about 500 people at the Peru x Venezuela game. Clearly the Copa América needs more group matches and the tournament needs to be played more often.
To be fair Brasil has been over-saturated with soccer tournaments over the last few years. Between The World Cup and Olympics and the Copa America things just are not as interesting anymore for the locals. On the other hand a match between Peru and Venezuela would probably have a near sellout in Cali, Colombia Next year. Cali has not seen any National teams play since the U20 World Cup 2011.
I dunno. Porto Alegre didn’t host many matches in those recent tournaments that you listed. Of course travel distance is a factor and you can’t get much further away from Peru than Porto Alegre, so yeah.... the same fixture would likely draw more next year (even though the game would be much less meaningful) Will the 2020 Copa have double-headers (i,e, 2 matches in the same stadium back to back)? Remember just 12 years ago, the Copa only had to sell tickets to total about 18 matches since you got to see two matches when you bought a ticket for the group stage.
I am not sure if it will be double headers. I think Colombia wants to spread it out as much as possible and not have double headers. As I said before they have only hosted once in a century so it will be a big deal.
The take from a Brazilian blogger on UOL: 1) Prices are too high for these group-stage games. 2) "Brazilians crave football" is a myth. They love playing it and cheering for their own team(s), but won't go to just any game. 3) Other South Americans aren't dying to travel for Copa América, if they can just wait for WCQ to see their NTs play in their own stadiums.
And the dramatic novela continues. As the poster crzd brought up in a post in the Colombian forum the President of Colombia seems very angry that the Final may not be played in Colombia. So much so that he is threatening to not even host any of the matches. And the Federation may not bring a team at all. This is getting even more ridiculous now. Maybe they should have just played this thing in the USA.
Assuming Colombia Qualifies to the Olympics I would rather the Federation just send a U23 team and three over-age players from the Colombian league. That would be useful for Japan 2020 prep.
What's most ridiculous is Colombia thinking anyone sees that as something other than a veiled threat.
Dudamel adds voice to criticism of Copa America that is struggling to catch fire http://www.insideworldfootball.com/...criticism-copa-america-struggling-catch-fire/ They should have just priced tickets sensibly...
Brazil has been oversaturated of football and remember they will be also host of the 2019 U17 FIFA World Cup. We will see how the stadiums will look. And with the mamotreto of the next Copa América with that boring format I don't predict many success. Just one year after this. I would not be surprised if Australia sent their U23 team....
Not to be mention the general Copa over-saturation. To be fair, Australia seem excited - but perhaps they haven't woken up to the fact that as guests clubs don't have to release their players. What kind of team did Japan ultimately send this year?
There is nothing official but maybe the reason we didn't play in the March friendly window and didn't call up most of the players for the last friendly earlier this month was so we could call on them in the break next year. The Copa America is just after the first world cup qualifiers. It would seem pointless accepting the invite if we couldn't send a decent squad. Apart from the 2020 Copa there aren't any (potential) tournaments on the calendar for us until 2022 and 2023.
If they're just inviting random AFC teams, anyway, they should invite Lebanon and Syria. At least they have some connection to Latin America... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shakira#Early_life
Qatar has the rights to televise Copa Americas. They have the rights to show the games in Australia via BeIN sports. They want that market to tune in which will help their bottom line and sponsors get more eyeballs.
This is old news. Beinsports is in the Conmebol TV business since Copa Centenario. The 2015 corruption scandal at Conmebol helped open up contracts with international networks which offered top dollar in previous years, but were denied in favor of US networks which bribed for Conmebol TV rights.
