Was there even a point to this tournament any more? The exact same result as a year ago. They probably should have just rigged it to make it different at least.
As a Brazilian, you must derive at least a little bit of glee watching the ever arrogant Argentines lose.
The narrators in the radio from Buenos Aires are mad as hell, "what does it matter beating minnows? who cares scoring four against the Venezuelas and the USAs, when we always lose at the end? Bunch of losers! Losers! Time to get rid of Martino... we can't lose like this!"
I'll tell you what, I'm not that pleased. I think I'm starting to feel sorry for them. Messi *is* a great player and it is a bit sad to see him crying. His window of opportunity is closing down. He may very well end his career without a major title with the senior national team which will damage his legacy and take him out of the equation of GOAT. He really doesn't deserve it since he is basically a decent guy and a superb player. So, my soccer-loving nature does feel sorry for him, actually. I don't really feel like gloating. Yes, I pumped the air when Chile scored the last penalty, but then I thought, darn... poor Messi.
We are minnows compared to them. When you're at that level you only have your eyes on the top 10. And, you expect to beat each one of them. As an aside, gutted for Messi. Weight of an entire nation on his shoulders in one of the most soccer-mad countries globally.
It's pretty much all Higuain's fault at this point. That dude is a ********ing jinx and has ruined Messi's life.
Exciting game. Those teams are light years ahead of the us. True even during the parts of the game that slowed down.
This was one of the best tournaments I've ever seen in my entire life as a soccer fan, and I've seen my share, including, traveling for World Cups. This was a great tournament, we organized it beautifully, no security incidents, and we actually even performed somewhat decently too; better than expected given the idiot we have as a manager. The hard-fought last game reconciled me with our team and showed that we did belong in the semis. Sure, we are not as good as Chile or Argentina - but not many teams in the world are, right now. Maybe *no* teams in the world are - I've been watching the Euro and frankly not even France, Germany, Spain, Belgium, or Italy are playing as well as Chile and Argentina, currently. So, we bitched and complained but we did fairly well with fourth place, and we put together a phenomenal tournament. I hope this continues to happen every four years, which would be very good for the USMNT.
