Copa America 2024 will be held in the US with CONMEBOL + 6 CONCACAF teams. https://ge.globo.com/futebol/futebo...-2024-sera-disputada-nos-estados-unidos.ghtml Good for us who live here, I guess. And good because it will be 16 teams, instead of 10, so a straightforward format. Still not 100% but both Confederations have tweeted the news.
The draw will be in December: https://ge.globo.com/futebol/futebo...-2024-sorteio-sera-no-dia-7-de-dezembro.ghtml CONCACAF teams will qualify based on their November Nations League quarter-final results. Since there are 6 spots for CONCACAF, that will determine 4 teams and the other two will come from the losers playing off in March.
Pots for the draw have been determined: Pot 1: Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, USA Pot 2: Uruguay, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru Pot 3: Chile, Venezuela, Panama, Paraguay Pot 4: Jamaica, Bolivia, 2 winners of CONCACAF playoffs in March
More detail, Brazil will be D1: https://ge.globo.com/futebol/futebo...-potes-e-detalhes-do-sorteio-dos-grupos.ghtml The draw happens a week from today in Miami, Thursday night, 9:30pm Brazil time
Copa America schedule and stadiums defined: https://copaamerica.com/news/conmeb...rio-de-la-conmebol-copa-america-2024/?lang=pt Brazil will play June 24 in LA, June 28 in Vegas and July 2 in the Bay Area (Santa Clara). I should start looking into tickets for that LA match... If Brazil advance in first then they would play the quarters on July 6 in Arizona, with the potential semi being the first East Coast match, in Charlotte. (Final will be in Miami). A second placed finish in the group means quarters on July 6 in Vegas, same potential semi-final due to the way the brackets are set. (EDITED to correct the dates of group matches, as they were off by 1 day each).
The video above was on the actual Copa America channel... no idea why they changed it to private. There are several steamers and networks covering it. Globo has it on their own page: https://ge.globo.com/futebol/futebo...-assista-ao-vivo-a-definicao-dos-grupos.ghtml Looks like we are close to starting the actual draw now.
Brasil, Colombia, Paraguai, TBD EDIT: I guess there was some confusion in the draw. We get a TBD CONCACAF team.
Uruguay would have been the worst draw of pot 2. Then Venezuela, with their tight defense probably good to have avoided as well.
With Colombia in our group and Uruguay in the USA's our half of the quarters and semis will be much tougher, but also much better viewing. Potentially Brazil x USA, Uruguay x Colombia quarters, Brazil x Uruguay semi. Whereas Argentina gets a very weak quarter-final and semi-final opponent. I could see even Venezuela winning Group B, considering how weak Mexico are, but I think Ecuador are the favorites there. Still, nothing like our half of the potential knock out rounds.
I'll actually be in Colombia for a buddy's wedding during the group stages but I would have liked to go to the first match then have a few days in LA. Going to Nevada/Arizona is too far for me but heres hoping the team at least makes it to the semis and/or final. Charlotte isn't too bad of a drive and Miami is a quick flight. If we get things tightened up, there is no reason we can't top the group.
anyone have a presale code they are not using? I want to take my kid to brasil v paraguay in las vegas.

Here are the final groups: Group A: Argentina Peru Chile Canada Group B: Mexico Ecuador Venezuela Jamaica Group C: USA Uruguay Panama Bolivia Group D: Brazil Colombia Paraguay Costa Rica
First indication I've seen that CONMEBOL will also expand rosters for Copa America: Atención una más en @Continental590 https://t.co/ImDxbNMZCr— Hernán Castillo (@HernanSCastillo) May 3, 2024
https://ge.globo.com/futebol/seleca...uncia-convocados-da-selecao-nesta-sexta.ghtml Convocação for Copa America and the friendlies will be announced tomorrow. No word in that article about whether the lost will have 26 players or 23. Players in Europe will report to the team May 30, except Vini, Rodrygo and Militão as they will have the CL final. They, and players in Brazil, will join on June 3.
The press conference began with messages from athletes requesting help for the victims of the floods in Rio Grande do Sul. One of the athletes who recorded a message was Casemiro, who I forgot in my prediction. I do think he'll be called up, although on current form it would certainly be ok not to call him. But there's a good chance since he's a team leader and Dorival wasn't able to have him in the March friendlies, that he'll be included now. The President of CBF is also making a declaration about the tragedy. He addressed the requests for pausing the championship while RS clubs are unable to train or use their stadiums. No pause was announced though, he said that the technical commissions that make the decisions for each division will continue to listen and make decisions. Then he asked for a minute of silence.
