How many genuinely positive performances did we have in Copa America after 2001? It feels like every tournament is a disaster

Last time it was here in the USA we got 3rd place.
Hopefully we can do better this time around.

I do not know what you consider a "disaster" but we got to the final 4 out of 8 tournaments(coming out champions 2001 obviously)

    2004 - 4th place - I didn’t watch, can’t say

    2007 - group stage - 5-0 over us; 4-2, nuff said, FAIL

2011 - gave up zero goals in group, scrapped out two wins, scored two goals AET; B-

2015 - lost to , beat , tied , lost in penalties to - I gave us a C bc this copa was not a convincing follow up from the 14WC

2016 - we got 3rd place but every game was underwhelming and we our victories more difficult than what they should have been - I give it a B+ bc we did get 3rd overall.

2019 - CQ had a strong group phase and good choice of subs each game, the first knockout game was weird with the lineup and sub choices which ended up in a loss to - i give the group stage an A, but the loss to Chile brought the overall grade to B-

    2021 - I give this one an A- bc
    1. We won a knockout game in penalties
    2. Rise of Lucho Díaz

2004 was pretty cool cause we sent a bunch of guys that we never really relied upon or called up much like Congo and Gustavo Victoria. Also a bunch of Domestic guys.
So it was treated like an experiment rather than a serious tournament and we still got third place.

Also Henao was our keeper coming off Caldas' improbably Libertadores victory.

Gee I wonder why they decided to use the previous rankings instead of the ones just released.

I hope we get Mexico because they don't deserve to be in pot 1.

No problems getting America or Mexico. I thoroughly enjoy beating them every time we play

    we will win it

James owes us a title. Then all of you can get off the dudes back. Many treat the guy like he is Tessor Moreno or gio Hernandez

    Nah,
    I can see it now.
It will be like the Euro when Portugal won without Ronaldo in the Final cause he gets injured.
James will probably tweak something. JuanFer comes in and scores the winner.

CrzD still says he sucks and is lucky that he scored cause he never does anything and should be singing reggeton.

we avoided Ecuador and Uruguay !!! That’s awesome.

if we get US/Mexico then we will easily top the group.

Arg/Brazil…. Well to me it doesn’t matter it’s more knocking them out in the knockout rounds. We beat them in group stage then shit our pants 1-2 weeks later when it matters

If we win a Copa America with James being a pillar during the tournament. Would he be considered the best Colombian player of all time despite his shortcomings?

Not his biggest fan but he does turn up in yellow.

He's the most prolific based on silverware and individual achievements. If he's the pillar that wins us a Copa America, what follows afterwards will clement his legacy and he can be officially viewed as our GOAT. Especially if we have a good world cup run.

He was there for me after 2017-8 at Bayern anyway, tied-ish with Falcao.

If he'd suffered a career debilitating injury rather than behaving like a moron would we doubt it? Golden Ball, Puskas, Championships in Argentina, Portugal, Spain and Germany, etc.

Anyway - Lorenzo has somehow engineered him another chance to rehab his image. Now it's just a mystery whether he will be healthy enough to play in June and next Sept.

Just makes one wonder - if Rueda hadn't frozen him out that summer (effectively forcing James into Qatarí semi retirement because no one in Europe would pay for him given the extent of his inactivity), would he have stayed in shape and been good enough to qualify us for Qatar WC and would his image have suffered as much as it did?

Rueda did him so dirty in the most passive aggressive gaslighting way...
