Congrats, argentinos! At this point, is Scaloni the winningest NT coach in the nation's history?

Colombia forgave too much and missed their chances.
    Argentina made them pay.
    Congrats to Argentina.

I believe yes but tied. Basile won 2 Copas, an Artemio Franchi trophy (finalissima predecessor) and one King Fahd Cup (Confed Cup predecessor). Scaloni has 4 titles now.

Argentina are now sole Copa record holders with 16 titles, passing Uruguay with 15.

A day when I got to watch 2 major continental Championship finals. On the whole I think while I enjoyed watching the Euros more overall, the Copa final was a much better watch than the Euro. Conrats to both Spain and Argentina. Spain were the superior side in the first game, and whilst the second game was much closer it was Argentina who got better as the game went on.

Didn't one of Spain or France win 3 major tournaments in a row ?

Congrats to Argentina for pulling off that feat. They stepped their game up because I thought for sure Colombia would win, but they raised their game big time.

If I'm not wrong, I think Stabile is still the one with most titles

I would hope the ticketed fans that did not get in received SERIOUS compensation, way above and beyond the cost of their ticket, be it from the primary or secondary market.

For all of the failures, at least it did not become another Hillsborough.

Plot twist: Conmebol blames Hard Rock Stadium for apparently ignoring its recommendations.

That’s what they were saying last night. That Concacaf and Hard Rock blew them off

Yeah, in general soccer crowds tend to enter the stadium more last minute and all at the same time. For American sports and also concerts, arrival of fans is much more dispersed - it's common to have >50% of the crowd arriving after the scheduled game start time.

So, just because a stadium hosted many big events before doesn't mean they knew what they were doing in this instance.

    Funny you should mention that.

I'm not at liberty to share the internal message that Hard Rock Stadium sent out to us staff verbatim... but there are two noteworthy things I can paraphrase:

    1. By their own admission, they had no idea what security challenges they were facing with fan disturbances ahead of this Final. Specifically, they used a lot of synonyms for unprecedented.

    2. They defended the act of opening the gates at 8 pm and letting everyone in unencumbered as a life-or-death measure to avoid a stampede or crushing outside the gates. Fair enough... but not a peep as to why the decision was made to proceed with the match rather than suspend it.

Either Conmebol does not know to how type up a contract, or wants to play dumb.

Conmebol paid for venue security enforcement. Expected obligations should be stipulated clearly on its signed contract, instead of *recommendations*.

Knowing that Conmebol cut expenses in multiple CA areas, then it should not surprise us if it bought a cheap security plan in the first place.

Otherwise, Conmebol can sue the venue security provider for breach of contract. Of course, Conmebol won't sue because it got what it paid for.

CONMEBOL has always been honest in the blame game and has never, ever lied.
