    We are living in the golden era of our national team. This group will go down as heroes. Just an incredible time to be a supporter of the seleccion.

    Winning never gets old. You can see what it meant to the players and the fans.

    Yep, March 2026 is the only possible date unless the Club WC is cancelled or heavily boycotted.

    I feel like Argentina will be quite a different team by then.

    Kind of makes sense given the last Finalissima was only a few months before the World Cup. With the schedule shifted back to normal post-Qatar weirdness, that's where it should land in the calendar. But everyone just assumes 2025...

    Argentina have matched Spain's achievement of winning a continental title, world cup and continental title. I used to wonder when Messi was watching his Barca team mates winning all those titles with Spain if there was a part of him that regretted turning them down, now he's done the same with Argentina at an age where his mates from Barca are either long retired from football or the national team.

    Thank god he changed his mind after the 2016 debacle. Imagine if he missed out on all this.

    I noticed that too. The proposed/rumored date I saw was after the 2-game June 2025 window. We play Chile & Colombia. Spain’s WC qualifying opponents are not yet set. The only way I could see that working is if the game is at Camp Nou & both sides are ok with starting their vacations late to play in Messi’s proper farewell (to Barcelona fans) game.

    It is always hilarious seeing celebrities thinking they could fight like a prime Mike Tyson. Boludo, sit in your suite and shut the hell up.

    Ah true. So yeah, not happening with a 5 day window. Well then I guess as @soul24rage pointed out, March 2026 would be the only opening. Maybe that’s too far away, but I’m all for adding yet another trophy.

    I did MA. Just that while Paredes threw himself around the park and brought the necessary energy Lo Celso and Lautaro did look sluggish as if they had been already playing 100 minutes or so. Julian must have some secret power source the way he runs and di Maria well he just kept running right to the end.

    For me Scaloni at last took the plunge and paired Licha with Cuti. I honestly don't think there is a better CB pairing in international football. They both read and anticipate at a very high level. They are tough as nails and intimidate opponents. They are also comfortable on the ball carrying it and passing it so that adds another dimension to the side.

    The sole issues are Romero out wide can lack the pace to match a winger if he gets dragged out wide and he's not still as aerially dominant as he should be. Licha I can't see any weaknesses. He's also leadership material.

    It's no coincidence we rarely concede with these two compared to Otamendi who had his time but is more limited as a defender. More of the old fashioned hard man school. The depth is there behind with Balerdi, Senesi, Medina, Perez who are not at the same level but hopes are that Anselmino and Palacio will be the long term replacements and squad depth for the two current incumbents.

    Defenders unfortunately rarely get player of the tournaments let alone the match. Cuti really does impose himself and he was great in terms of discipline too with just 3 yellows. Controlled aggression.

    Objective metrics on Opta show Romero and Licha as some of the best performers throughout the Copa. They will be around for two more WC cycles and 2 Copas. I can only see them getting better and if they have any sense at Tottenham or Manchester United they will be made captains.

    Over 120 years of organized football Argentina have some many outstanding players but even among those some stand out as the brightest stars in the firmament. di Maria is one of those. He will go down as a legendary player as will Dibu, Cuti and Licha if they keep up their level internationally.

    You forgot its a final, so ADM performance level will be off the chart.

    Within the last 4 trophies we won in last 4 years , the goal scorers are...
    ADM = 3 goals (WC, CA, Finalissima)
    Messi = 2 goals (WC)
    Lautaro = 2 goals (CA , Finalissima)
