Lol, one of the most idiotic English pundits, and that is a very competitive field, is Paul Merson and he claimed that most people (by which he means English people) would'nt even recognise most of the Argentinian players.

Remember they once labelled our midfields "some Argentina midfielders":whistling::laugh:

Yet their midfielders can only dominates against minnows and disappeared once they play the stronger teams in tournaments (Belgium, Croatia, Italy, Spain).

Well, he won’t win it but should definitely be within the top 5-7. Won the league, MVP, top goal scorer, Copa America’s top scorer and CA winner. They may give it to Rodri but the likes of cough cough Madrid PR, Vinicius and Jude will be looked at even though both were deemed as average in these tournaments.

He's front runner for Ballon if he plays for famous English side or Real madrid.

As I always said, everytime Paredes came in he'd unleash those double legs tackle. It works wonder this time unlike against Netherlands.

My realization that there won’t be any international football on tomorrow…

Oh, well, at least we get some Primera action back soon.

Think this may have been the last game for Messi too. He's definitely not playing in September with that ankle.

Finalissima is too far away, let alone 2026.

Honestly, feel like he should play one more qualifier as a farewell and let the team begin the transition (which will be TOUGH).

with the win, where does this Argentina team rank all time? ... they have done something only Spain has done winning back-to-back major titles in the middle of winning a World Cup.

Only national team ever to win 4 trophies in a row (including Finalissima), beat 3 World Champions & a team on a 28 game unbeaten run in each final. Only 2 losses in 63 games (no other team is close). And neither of those losses were goleadas (like our 4-1 win over Spain in September 2010). Not too shabby…

I attended this (ultimately beautiful) cluster**** of an event.

-Getting in was such a disaster as has been documented. Didn’t care about myself but was worried about my wife. We scanned our tickets when we got in but a ton of ppl just went through or around the turnstiles, running into the stadium. Pure chaos. Lots of scared/crying kids.

-Many fans in yellow were sitting in the aisles in our section

-The Colombia fans we sat next to were chill fwiw

-They need better songs/chants, etc. But man the Cafeteros were LOUD. Maybe it’s just me, but when they started chanting “Colombia”, it seemed like their players would immediately lose the ball or make an errant pass. Maybe the pressure was too much for them.

-When the Colombian fans started chanting “Sí se puede!” on James’ last corner I knew we’d win. Goofy stuff.

-I was surprised that right after Lautaro’s goal their fans made a beeline out of the stadium. Ye of little faith…

-I’m glad we went and had a great time (once we got inside the stadium safely). Something had better be done for the fans with tickets who were unable to enter.

-Anything related to the gameplay has already been said, but the feeling in our section once Lautaro & co were subbed in was one of calm & expectation of the inevitable.

    Dale campeoooonnnn!

Watching Messi play, i always question how he can play that dynamic playmaker style for nearly 20 years. All would give up when they reach 30. Diego, Ronaldinho, Neymar... Too much stress on their body and their mind.

    Yet you have Messi.

Nico & Julian played their role, softening opponents legs. You could see when Gio laid off that assist, the Colombian defender's leg has given up.

Looking at the potential dates for the Finalissima, there wouldn't be any space at all in both Spring and Summer of 2025 with Argentina having the WCQ and the FIFA Club World Cup happening in that summer as well.

Fall 2025 will be trickier as well since UEFA will be concluding their World Cup Qualifiers in Nov. 2025.

The only possible date that I could see is the March 2026 time slot.
