I dont care what's Nico actual role under Scaloni, he played like the whole game against weak opponents in a space of 5 days and shows everyone that he cant finish when presented with good chances. Against teams like Brazil and Uruguay, clear chances will be far in between. You just cant waste too many.

I see Garnacho's "liking" and supporting Lautaro's post on IG. I guess Scaloni has his own plan on him. We've yet to seen it but I believe Scaloni will have something up his sleeve to surprise our opponents.

The Official 26 player squad for the Copa America

    GK: Dibu, Armani, Rulli
    RB: Molina, Montiel
CB: Romero, Otamendi, Pezzella, Quarta, Lisandro
    LB: Acuna, Tagliafico

    CDM: Paredes, Enzo, Guido
CM: RDP, MacAllister, Lo Celso, Palacios

    RW: Di Maria, Valentin Carboni
    CAM: Messi
    LW: Garnacho, Nicolas Gonzalez
    ST: Julian, Lautaro

    Note:
    - Not a surprise that Barco and Balerdi were going to be cut off. Would have liked Balerdi ahead of Pezzella.
    - Looks like Carboni impressed during training and game to be ahead of Angel Correa. It's good as well as the team is also looking ahead to the World Cup

Im quite happy to see Carboni make the team. Yes, I think he played well enough to make the team. I enjoy what he can possibly bring to the table. He's not scared to take on defenders.

Correa has won a CA and a World Cup. I think his time with the seleccion is over. Thank you for your contribution and move on.

A shame about Colo and Balerdi. Their time will come soon.

I think Pezzella is awful and Guido... Well, I guess Scaloni thinks he can help close a game down, which kinda makes me worry that Scaloni could get ultra defensive in a tight game that we are up.

When has killing the game by putting defensive players last worked especially for Argentina? Even teams who used to do in ucl don't do it anymore with the introduction of 5 subs and no away goals. You just sub like for like and that's it. It is all about squad depth which we have in midfield. We should be always pushing and keeping real scoring threats on especially if it's straight to penalties after regular time

Everytime Pezzella came on during the world we conceded a goal. It was almost comical.

Mostly injuries forced his hand. Paredes and lautaro had nagging injuries coming in 100% confirmed. Lo celso was going to be starter, j correa first sub ditto gonzalez. Same as with Romero and dibu before copa.

Remember the 0-0 game against Brazil in qualifier? he came on and few mins later he chipped the ball to the touchline for no reason while not being preasured. I actually thought the ref blew the whistle for some incident but appearently not lol

Pretty much a very conservative selection by Scalon barring Carboni who has real promise. Maybe Nicolas Paz should see what happened this season and he must move from Real Madrid where he is rotting away. He needs to be playing real competitive football and he's not going to get many minutes at all if any.

No way as mentined Guido or Pezzella should be in the team. Should be on form Varela/Equi and Balerdi. Even if they did not play it's great to get that tournament experience and team bonding under your belt. The Olympics will show both Varela and Equi to their best I am sure. And the two keepers Armani and Rulli disasters in waiting.

Unfortunate news is that Mastantuono is being chased now not by Real Madrid (awful team to go to) but by UAE City. Hopefully the coming punishments for that equally horrible club will be massive fines, points deductions, stripping of titles and expulsion from the PL. One but can hope. Franco needs to stick around for another 3 seasons and keep learning his craft.

Soule given how Carboni has been selected can count himself very hard done by for that RW spot. He's being linked to West Ham and Brighton.

Everyone is blathering on about Yamal but Mastantuono and Parmo are just as good.

Maybe they've done some analysis of his work load which is far higher than any 19yo should have had and decided to give him a longer break and then unleash him as an impact substitute during the group games. I think that's wise because at times late in the season he was looking leggy.

Canada usually play in a 442 and build up in a 352 with the RB forming in a back 3 and Davies pushing up from the LB position. When defending, they usually are compact and defending in 442. We need players who are comfortable in close space and please no Nico Gonzalez in the starting XI.

    My lineup vs Canada

    ---------Martinez
    -----------------------Messi------------DI Maria
    Acuña—-MacA------------RDP
    –--------------------Paredes-----------Molina
    -----------Lisandro---------Romero
    -----------------------Dibu

This is what I thought aswell, Garnacho played up to 50 games this season which is unusal for 19 year old. He's a player that rely heavily on speed much like Caniggia, so I believe he must be regularly training with the main team if Scaloni decided to pick him.

It looks like Otamendi will start vs Canada, as expected

Good news is that no artificial turf will be played vs Canada

Yeah it'll be real grass on top of the fake grass, which has its own issues but they've been getting better at installing it.

Bro. It’s Canada. We can roll in Ruggeri and we’d be fine v Canada.

Maybe our defense should bring a couple lawn chairs and get themselves those fruity drinks with the umbrella in it to enjoy their break v Canada.

Does anybody know if FIFA allows you to bring your telephones onto the pitch, you know, to kill time?

Canada is a young team with a lot of athletic players. For sure Argentina can take them but they shouldn't be underestimated.

I doubt Scaloni and company will underestimate them. They'll have done their research and preparation and created plans accordingly. The midfield will control the ball and squeeze Canada to death.

I am a little older than most people here, so my Albiceleste experience covers a lot. This is the first time that I feel no pressure going into a tournament, and I think these players feel it.

Starting with the 94 teams, it felt like the pressure started to build-up because we are always one of the favorites, and the farther we got from 1986, the heavier the pressure got. Just about every team since 94 the experts would ask "Is this the year" and with Messi the pressure felt even more palpable. But now, it feels like we have nothing to prove which will allow the teams to play loser and better. Nothing but good vibes - win or lose, I love this team and they gave us everything we wanted in the last 3 years.

They're actually quite the offensive team, I don't think Dibu and co will see no action but also there should be more spaces than usual for our attack.

Mate, Parmo has played like 3 minutes in a copa argentina match. There's a long way to go before we can say he's in the same place as those two.

To be fair, the 2002 was the killer blow, (coupled with the 2004 Copa final). Streamrolling everyone in qualifier only to underperformed during the WC itself. Granted Owen dived just like in 1998, but its still underwhelming performance especially the midfield and frontlines.

2006 we looked comfortable againts everyone though, until that stupid multiple bad subs.

Now we are champions of everything I'm just looking forward to the tournament without the feeling of dread we had for so long about whether we will end up losing another final. Obviously I want us to win it, but I realise that only 1 team in history has ever won 3 international tournaments back to back, Spain when they won the Euros in '08 and '12 and world cup in '10. So I appreciate the magnitude of the task of winning a 3rd tournament in a row (alongside the Finalísima), so if we lose, it will be dissapointing but nothing more. Bring it on.
