We should have been able to counter Peru easily with the changes they made at HT. Not a good 2nd half.
Watching this game I got a strange but familiar feeling remembering that quarterfinal in South Africa 2010 between Brazil and the Netherlands. Great first half by Brazil, scary second half.
I've said this before ... this 4-2-4 is not good IMO. Guess it worked today in 1st half because Peru played afraid. When they decided to attack in 2nd half with a different formation, they caused us trouble. Paqueta did well in offense and I think Tite will try to keep playing him ... but he is clumsy on defense.
I think the line-up Saturday will be: Ederson; Danilo, Thiago SIlva, Marquinhos, Alex Sandro; Casemiro, Fred, Paquetá; Gabriel Jesus, Neymar, Richarlison The only real question mark is Alex Sandro. He has been out injured for 2 games in a row and might not be available. If he is, he offers more to support the midfield and defense and can still provide offense, just not as wide as Lodi. For all of Peru's pressure in the second half it wasn't very threatening. The most frustrating things for me were: Brazil never pushed back and never showed anything they did in the first half About 3 times players wanted PKs but instead of trying to make the PK happen and force the ref to call it, they just expected the ref to give it immediately. If you want to "cavar" a penalty you need to do the work.
Brazil's first half was likely the best of the tournament, but the second half was probably the worst. It's perhaps a good thing Peru threatened in the second, to remind the players to be alert. Colombia and Argentina are hungry teams who will give it their all not only tomorrow but in a final match. There was a PK as Celito said, and the referee was too far to see that the Peruvian shoved Richarlison. In any case - Brazil is in its second consecutive final, and deservingly so.
Peruvians are complaining about the ref and how he acted towards the players, adding that to the missed penalty and claiming it means the ref was clearly favoring Brazil... only Neymar also complained about how the ref addressed players and how arrogant he was. Frankly my reaction to Neymar's complaint was "good, the ref should be focused on calls and not listening to players" but if both teams are complaining this much I'm curious as to what specifically he said to them to warrant this.
Right. In Neymar's interview he said he was disrespectful to both teams not only him or Brazil. I didn't see much wrong with the ref in terms of calls other than some missed fouls. If anything, we could have had a PK .. I mean, basically the same thing was a PK for the Swiss vs Italy the other day.
The Peruvians are sounding very bitter. They seem to always complain about the ref but now some of the comments are bordering on racist. Peruvians being racist? I mean, can you imagine?
Gabriel Jesus is out of the final, CONMEBOL suspended him for 2 games. https://ge.globo.com/futebol/copa-a...ante-esta-fora-da-final-da-copa-america.ghtml
Argentina getting beat up out there. Messi with a bloody ankle. They may get to the final in pieces at this rate.
Clear tug there on Otamendi off the corner. Probably should be a PK. Although ball wasn't getting to him. Argies will be pissed for sure.
Argentina it is. Gonna be tough as they look better than yesteryears. Still rather face them than Colombia to be honest .. who can get too physical. But Argentina are definitely a good technical team and that will be a challenge. In 2019 they gave us plenty of trouble in the SF.
Argentina scored, withdrew into defense, Colombia equalized. The former is fortunate penalty kicks went its way.
I really rather play Argentina ... if you go behind Colombia they are tough to break through and if you go ahead they very chippy and physical.
I get an 07 dunga team feel with this Argentina team. Unimpressive, grinding out wins. On the flip side, I’m unimpressed with us as well so, 50/50 final IMO.
