This is an article about a Latino league cooperating with CASL, which has one of the strongest programs in the country.

Some highlights:

Three years ago, the "La Liga de Futbol Latino" soccer league seemed doomed. But now, viva La Liga!...

Charlie Slagle, chief executive officer of CASL, said the two organizations are trying to organize a round-robin type tournament to be played between CASL's and La Liga's elite, along with the best 19-and-under players in the state....

CASL would especially like to include in its programs Hispanic girls, who traditionally are discouraged from playing soccer in their native countries....

"We're going into our first fund-raising campaign ever to build more fields and make already established fields more usable," Slagle said.

"A lot of different things are hopefully in the works -- synthetic-surface fields to [save] wear and tear on other fields. We would do practices on those," he continued. "Lights would be another area. Only three or four fields have lights out of 80."

The CASL fields have always been bad since I moved to Raleigh in 1990. They spend absolutely no time or money on the upkeep of fields. Besides the new SAS park, the few good fields are probably not controlled by CASL, but by another club in the area.
