My favorite stadium in the world: Millerntor-Stadion, home of FC St Pauli in Hamburg. Capacity just under 20,000.

If I were building it today in the KC area, I would put a walking concourse that runs the around the whole stadium and put a series of eateries/concessions behind the along it behind the north and south stands. And of course, behind the goals would have to be converted to all seats, which would bump down the capacity close to the 18,000 we're looking at.

Honestly...I can't think of anything I don't like about this stadium.

A modern, forward thinking design? Check.
Still retains a sense of tradition? Check.
Isn't a clone of PHP or Bridgeview? Check.
Has a big ********ing roof over at least most of it? Check.

I think the only problem with this could possibly be the size. Of course, we have no way of knowing without looking at the picture.

I really like this design as well. The glass all around gives it an extremely open look while it's a very intimate design. The sound would be great with a packed house I'd think.

I forgot to mention that there's plenty of opportunity for a stage in that design without having it really intrude with the atmosphere of the ground. Just build it right above one of the shorter ends.

Kinda like what they did at Bridgeview, only a little bit better.

The stage roof is to high up it needs to be lowered and incorperated into the look of the stadium. As of right now all the stages stick out like sore thumbs and look like shit. That is not a good spot for the video board either imo.

i really doubt, with Hunt being the owner and he WILL have influence on the stadium,, that a stage will be built in your stadium.

Jesus this is crazy, KC Fans debating about a stadium!

He won't be the owner when this gets built. He's selling the team because he doesn't want to build us one.

Sigh. Hunt will no longer be the owner when this happens.

without doubt one of the ugliest stadia around. Even in England they make fun of that stadium. Granted it does have some insane history!

And even if that wasn't the case, isn't Hunt the owner of a SSS in Texas with a stage? (Or at least the owner of the primary tenant of said stadium.)

I'm gonna have to agree with you there.

I mean, yeah, the brick facade is kinda nice...but that takes up less than half of one of the stands.

i really dig this one. i think it looks quite stylish from the outside as well.
it seats 25k. i figure we could do this and just not build the second deck on the two ends yet... that'd prolly knock it down to around 20k.

I agree about Villa's stadium, though the facade is nice.

I just wanted to see this one again.

This one looks perfect to me. If a stage is required one of the behind the goal sections could be converted to a stage and still keep the all round roof. This would also bring the capacity in line with what MLS expects.

The actual playing field is on top of a shopping center...

I'm not entirely excited about this "look"... but the "RETAIL" aspect is interseting... and might actually make more room for additional retail space or more youth fields... or, whatever. Something to definitely consider.

    What does Lamar Think?

I would REALLY like to know/see what Lamar has/had in mind for a K.C. based SSS. After all, he did attend matches in EVERY World Cup venue in both Japan and Korea in 2002 to help him gain ideas for U.S. based SSS.

The guy is a wealth (pun intended) of soccer ideas. I hope he doesn't go to his grave without sharing his wisdom.

On 300+ acre sites, I think it would be overkill. That said, I bet we see something like this seriously considered when a stadium is built in Boston.

I mean, I know what I'd do in Boston...build one of these integrated stage venues, with retail and restaurants, plus a retractable roof, right in the heart of the city. With a vertical structure like this. I think it could be well worth it...one of the few areas of the country where I'd argue that. If Boston had a city site, Revs attendance might just be the best in the league. Until they put a team in Queens.

It's the same with the planned new soccer stadium in Zurich, the field is on top of a multistory shopping center.

(now if only the nearby residents would stop fighting it in court)

Basel and Bern also have retail, but underground...

Hope they plan on doing an exorcism or two before calling that one done.

Seems to be ghosts floating around there....

    Re: What does Lamar Think?

While I have a lot of respect for Lamar (I know we wouldn't have a team otherwise), seeing the stadia that he has overseen construction of, and other soccer ideas HSG has had for KC over the years, I have to disagree.
