Sorry, didn't have time to go through the whole thread on the latest news on "The Trade". But, I think Hudson and DC are crazy if they think another bunch of draft picks are going to help this team. How many teens can you put out there? I mean one, maybe two, in a league like MLS--but DC's on the verge of 4 or 5. Jeez

Actually I'd still say that the odds are greater than even that we will wind up with an older team by the start of the season. I can't imagine for a minute that Hudson will keep all those draft picks.

They're all ammo to have in the back pocket.

Several teams are bumping their heads on the salary cap, and are going to be forced to deal talent for prospects.

This deal (should it happen) gives us maximum flexibility.

    1. We can trade picks for players (and there are lots of teams out there who are capped out. SoS will be one of them if they do this deal and sign Howard, Jolley to the money promised them and don't cut Balboa and Andy Williams).

    2. We are allowed for roster/cap exempt players (either P-40 or developmental players). Instead of drafting a guy in the 5th round who has close to zero change of EVER playing in a game for United, what if our 4 developmental players were chosen among the top 14 players in the league? Wouldn't that be some depth?

    3. We're likely to add serious pros at D-mid/holding mid and finisher. Given the rest of the team, the only place we'd be extremely "young" at then is left midfield (where there are lots of MLS vets bouncing around for the league minimum or $10K above minimum).

    4. This is the only deal we can do to improve the team. Or, we can cut Pope and Moreno outright (and get nothing in return).

In US sports leagues, draft picks are the medium of exchange. I wouldn't be surprised if DCU is involved in a few more trades. Remember, most deals hapen draft day or the day before.

I can't wait for draft day... at least all this guessing will come to an end. Even if the results are just complaints, we'll at least be able to look at a team instead of imaginary players or cameo appearances in our dreams.

WHAT?!? It's obvious you haven't been here long.

Rumor and conjecture about imaginary players and phantom trades are what these boards were created for. How else do you expect us stay entertained during the off-season? :)

Have to pass on that one. Mulrooney will do nicely however.

True, very true. But after Hudson uses that allocation, how much room will be left from all that cap room created. At most, I would think you would only be able to bring in 1 or 2 mid-salaried veterans. Judging by what you're getting in this trade, the quality isn't looking too good. I'd be horrified as a DCU fan to lose Moreno and Pope and pick up Petke and Razov. Hell, I'm shocked that they're getting rid of Pope before Etcheverry.

All of this seems to rest on that allocation panning out big time. Good luck.
