From the SI soccer site about US National team preparations for Argentina... "During a recent meal with fellow players at a local restaurant, midfielder Bobby Convey joined a guitarist on stage and belted out two songs for the dinner crowd. “Pretty damn good,” said fellow United midfielder Ben Olsen..."
For some reason, that is really hard to picture. It would help to know what he was singing...hopefully it won't make me puke. Tim
I just hope the guitar playing and singing wasn't as bad as Chad Hutchinson and that WR that was cut by the Cowboys during the Hard Knocks show on HBO during NFL pre-season this past year!
I heard one of the songs was the song that Pablo actually played on the ESPN behind the scenes show that started right before the cup.
Any word on when sormun's going to say that the Richmond Kickers' midfield can sing better than Convey?
...and time for the obligatory comment about it not being the first time you missed a sitter... This is reminding me of the Meet The Team Day in 2000, Convey's rookie season. It's towards the end of the day and a song by one of the boy bands starts playing. Carey Talley looked over at us at the SE table and says "This is Bobby Convey's favorite song."
It's obvious. "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" from the musical Evita and "A Very Good Year" (the old Sinatra ditty with the line "when I was 17, it was a very good year...").
OK. I hope he will be more sucesfull in singing career than he is in soccer !!! ...and he will chose "singing" over soccer ! PS. Just kidding....
I am not sure why you are kidding, after all Julio Iglesias did just that! Julio Iglesias was a back-up goalkeeper for Real Madrid. In one of the games that he played in, he got hurt and was taken to the hospital. During his lengthy stay in the hospital he took up singing. The rest is history.
Is that where Iker Casillas got the idea he should try to look like a pretty boy on the field? (for God's sake man, keep your socks below your knees)
Rod Stewart was on apprentice papers with one of the lower division London teams but quit because he had to clean all the boots every day and he could make more money singing. To this day he's a die hard Celtic fan. "You're Celtic, United and baby I decided you're the best thing I ever seen."
