http://www.mercurynews.com/sportsheadlines/ci_11672294?nclick_check=1 Just seeing if I could beat Goodsie Also noted in the article Glinton is gone. Quakes site also announces signing http://web.mlsnet.com/news/team_new...ent_id=217038&vkey=pr_sje&fext=.jsp&team=t110
Well, here is our attacking midfielder and future replacement for Hucks (who I expect will be gone after this season). I think this a good signing with the potential to be a very good signing. Although he hasn't been playing, he should be in good condition. We are going to have a really exciting midfield which should be fun to watch. Hopefully, someone can get on the end and score some goals. Oh, by the way, has he passed the physical?
So did this part make you laugh too? It does should like Frank will put him in the middle. The next lines ..
I can't find the bit about Glinton. Is it there? EDIT: The link finally worked for me -- saw the Glinton line - thanks! I'm off to the Semi-Official Roster Thread!
Very last line - "San Jose has released forward Gavin Glinton, who started at the beginning of last season before suffering a sports hernia injury."
There is one bit of information I would like to hear, that at least so far, no one has addressed. Nate Jaqua came back to the MLS, signing with the Dynamo with the express condition that his name be put on the "unprotected" list for the 2009 expansion draft. He wanted to play for his hometown Sounders. My concern is that Convey may have in fact done the same and until I hear otherwise from the FO, I'm going to not get too attached to him as we might have to put him out there for Philly to take in 2010. I would very much like to have someone ask this question of the FO..... Mr. Carlisle....?????
I'd keep him this year, see how he does. If he's decent/respectable, I'd trade him to Philadelphia for their spot on top of the allocation list/money/draft picks. If he plays out of his ass, I'd do everything i can to keep him.
Well, the Quakes (and MLS ?) appear to be signing short term contracts (1-2 years) for most players. So, this always the case that the player may leave. Plus, we may want him to leave...
I think it would be a decent thing to do to trade him to Philly if he wants to play there next year. However, it would also be decent to us fans if the Quakes got something realllllly good out of it.
"Earthquakes sign US international Convey" (Tuesday, 2/10/09) Bobby Convey brings a wealth of international experience to San Jose. (AP) Bobby Convey will bring both World Cup and English Premier League experience to the Quakes midfield. (AP) GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
I'd go into the relationship with the 100% expectation this is our replacement at left mid for Hucks that will last for 6 or 7 years.
I think that's more likely to be young Shea Salinas. Remember the end of last season? He was even starting to run like Hucks.
The situations are similar, yet different. We had to pay with our allocation spot for the rights to Convey. Houston already held the rights to Jaqua as he had been on their roster before leaving on a free at the end of 2007. So he cost Houston nothing to come back and they supposedly had a gentleman's agreement to leave him unprotected in the expansion draft or to otherwise allow Seattle to acquire him the following season. Maybe it's a small difference, and maybe the Quakes don't mind paying this small cost in order to get Convey for this year, but I wouldn't worry about it. Unless or until Bobby says something there's no reason to think it's an issue. Besides, players come and go all the time.
Hi I'm a Reading fan and i just wan't to wish Bobby all the best, sad to see him go one of the most talented players i have seen wear a reading shirt. In the 2005/6 season he was phenomenal. Well anything else you want to ask about him I'm your man. Take good care of our Bobby, and I wish him all the best.
May well be true....he might be able to play either side. With Convey, I just have to see with my own eyes he looks better in the center than as a LB who can overlap and get crosses in. Point was more about go into our relationship with the player expecting Convey to stay. To do otherwise can easily become a self-fullfilling prophecy.
Keep in mind it took a couple of years for DeRo to work back to Toronto. While Im sure Convey would like to play in Philly at some point, he may not nescessarily be in a huge hurry.
Good look to Convey. He was a big part in helping our club get promoted and did great in the premiership. Sad to see him go, but I didn't see a future for him at Reading.
Totally agree. Hunt took his opportunity well when Convey got injured and never let go of his spot. When Hunt decided to stay at Reading, there was little chance of Convey getting his spot back...
