Kudos to U-20 Captain Bobby Convey and best of luck in the Youth World Championships! We shall get our results on the German and Korean soccer teams yet. -Tron
Yes, Convey will miss several games at the start of the season, as will Santino. Right now Convey is with Olsen and Rimando on Bruce's team preparing for D'Alessandro and Argentina. It's a good prep for the U-20 World Championships. From there, Convey will likely come to DC for a short while (not sure how long) and then head to Rongen's U-20 camp ahead of the Youth World Championships. Then Convey will attend those, and depending upon how far the U-20's progress, he may miss some more. So Convey and Santino will definitely miss the season opener but I'm not exactly sure when he'll be back, hopefully it'll be in April. Best of luck to the U-20's! While those two are gone, it will allow some of the younger players like Esky and Eliseo to get valuable sustained playing time. Once Convey and Santino return, I expect Hudson to ease them in and make them fight for their starting spots, particularly Santino. This should also allow them time to gell with the rest of the team, because they will have missed a lot of the bonding and chemistry-building portion of the season. -Tron
The U-20 Championship is April 16th. I don't know how far the US will progress, but that would be the longest we would be without Convey and Santino. Here is the complete U-20 schedule with TV information where available: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=31389 -Tron
Both of those guys will miss two games maximum if the USA reaches either the final or the third place match... It all depends on how they do in pool play and subsequent playoff rounds.. The semi-finals are set for the same day that United opens their season in KC so it is not out of the question that both Tino and Bobby could be in KC if the USA craps out of tournament earlier than expected..
