After being unceremoniously dumped by the league, here's one Fusion fan who will tune in with great trepidation to MLS Cup....like seeing a long lost past girlfriend, feelings are mixed. I've stayed away this year (only saw the first half of the opening match--in Columbus, right?) and have done surprisingly well without MLS in my daily life. I've gone from 4 year season ticket holder to nothing...cold turkey, we had no choice here in SoFla. My family has found other ways to enjoy ourselves and spend money. My four year old no longer remembers 'Pibe Valderrama/Jay Heaps/Mastroeni'--players he knew very well in the not so distant past. I drive past the stadium now without avoidance. My bumper sticker has just about faded into oblivion, unrecognizable. I'm afraid to watch Sunday....don't want to fall in love again, though I'll root for the Revs (Chacon/Heaps/Cullen--hell, it's the godda*n New England Fusion)....for old time's sake.
I'm really excited about MLS Cup! I was really sad when the Mutiny and Fusion folded also. I hope it never happens to anyone else's team... it really isn't fun. People don't realize how much it really sucks! I hope MLS grows, gets some new teams and eventually comes back to Florida.
Fusionmansteve, I feel for ya. As a DIEHARD Mutiny fan for six seasons who rarely missed a game, it's been a tough tough summer for me, at least sports wise (with the except of the World Cup). Sure, the world doesn't revolved around soccer, but man, it stings to lose a sport team you love. But to answer your question, I'm pulling for the Galaxy, even though my fav ex-Mut, Steve Ralton, is now a Rev. Guess I kinda feel sorry for L.A. in the same way I felt sorry for the Buffalo Bills in the 1990s -- get to the big dance several times but leave without the girl.
I did not know MLS at one time had 12 teams, I am new to this site. Fusion and Mutiny names for a football team, sounds very funny to me,no wonder they left town....
