How did Conteh look in training the past several days ? Hope his performance in practice is much improved over Tuesday night's game in Boulder.

i heard that he hadn't played in about 1 year.. that might have something to do with his soccer shape.

Then why the hell did Hankinson go after him? He's going to get injuried about 2 weeks after signing, you watch. Wasn't this the problem with last's years Nigerian? That he couldn't get in shape?

Conteh at altitude will be a joke. Does it get more desperate then this???

Is there big news on the way?

Chris Bergin <www.ussocceruk.com> is reporting big goings on for the Rapids. He says it is 37.2 on a scale of 1 to 10. Any ideas what he is talking about?

I just checked that out too, as a result of this post. I'd love to speculate... Hanki's gone, Balboa or Bravo in? Conteh signed, Mastro to Tenerife, and every other rumor we've speculated on have all come true.

37.2...Counce is out and they are replacing him with Kiki Vandeweghe.

An additional rumor just posted from Bergin is that the Rapids never got the salary cap space back from losing Grimandi. That seems...unfair...to say the least.

My guess for the wierdness in Colorado is some roster juggling so we can bring in a new player that would put us over the cap, but due to the Grimandi siutation MLs is going to allow it.

Yeah, Pablo's contact through August has been waved by the Rapids.

Also, Hanki is retiring after the 4th of July. Head Coach? Bravo and Carlos Valderrama will be sharing the position.

My speculation: The Rapids won't have to pay for Powell; the checks are going to be cut straight from Grimandi's personal checking account instead. This leaves room under the salary cap for us to pay Conteh to sit in Schmidt's spot on the bench until Zizi gets back from the witch doctor. Then Conteh will sit in Zizi's spot.

Or Grimandi has decided he doesn't want to play for a second division team in France anyway, and he sort of misses being able to buy Levi's cheap, so he's coming back to Colorado, but he's still going to pay for Powell to join the team so the two of them can sit on the bench and reminisce about how things were better when they played in Europe.

You know what, I just read Conteh's bio on mlsnet.com---about how a dozen members of his family were killed by rebel forces in Sierra Leone and another dozen are unaccounted for. So that's it for me---I don't think I'll ever make fun of him again. (I'm sure somebody else will do it for me!)

SENT HOME: Sierra Leone-born Abdul Thompson Conteh, a former San Jose and D.C. striker who tried out for the Rapids, will not be offered a contract, Colorado coach Tim Hankinson said.

"We sent him home (Friday)," Hankinson said. "We felt at this point in time, it's not the right choice. He needs to improve on his fitness, and we don't have that kind of time."

Hanki heard his knees passed the physical, and was reported to have said "We only take African strikers with bad knees." :D
