A couple of weeks ago Doc said that it seemed like when Casey scored it was shorlty after he came in the game, then his play seemed to wind down the longer he was on the field. I told him I'd look at the numbers but now I can't remember what thread the request was in. So here are the numbers.

Minutes on the field each game before he scored:
    7, 70, 67, 11/47, 11/45/90, 7, 85, 19

On average it took him 42 minutes to score in the games he scored in. If you just look at the first goal in the game it took him 35 minutes.

Interesting note, Casey started every game he scored in. He never scored as a sub.

    Good stuff as always Jason!

I guess I was wrong in a way, but it still seemed that he constantly got winded a little too early.

I hope with a healthy off-season he can come back in full health and score 14-17(I don't think he is capable of 18+).

*yawn* A FYP response. Really, that's the best you could come up with after all that time off?

That *yawn* you keep hearing is your significant other.

Instead of going and pleasing someone else, go stroke your ego on your excel page geek.

what freaks me out about you is that to have this level of insight you surely realize what that makes you taking the time to post this.

and for those who don't get it,

this is a soccer message board on the internet. If you're hear reading posts, you're a big fat soccer loser geek. If you're actually taking time to write a post, whatever the content, you're from beyond the valley of big fat soccer loser geek.

It does have the markings of a tiff between the AV Club and the Band ******** over who's the bigger group of geeks.

What freaks me out about you is the fact that you have spent so much time on this site to become a moderator.

Level of insight? To rip someone like jason you do not need insight you just need a heartbeat.

"...what that makes you taking the time to post this." Uh yeah I know what that makes me you dope. Haven't you noticed my screen name?

Oh jason, you poor thing. "Insight" suggests the act or result of apprehending the inner nature of things or of seeing intuitively. With all your posts, you have no "inner nature of things" because you are a number cruncher. No matter how you "crunch" it, others see it as a half ass effort to sound like you know something about this sport when in reality all you know is numbers. Number crunching do not win games. Period. Your microsoft excel skills will never "get" a result for any team anywhere in the world. "Seeing intuitively" is the power of the mind to preceive the truth without reasoning or analysis. In other words the answer to the question should just come to you without "number crunching."

I would not need any insight to rip you.
    A) You are a number cruncher thus you have no apprehension of the inner nature of things so it is easy to rip you without the use of "insight."
    B) You do not see this sport "intuitively" so once again there is no need for me to have insight to rip you.

But nice try to "get me back." Hopefully you can come up with a snappy remark from this post. But probably not since you can not punch this information into excel and "break down" a result for you to post.

... back on task. So what is the knock on Casey with these numbers? To me the only number to look at is total number of goals. I could care less if he scores in the 1st or 90th minute. However, averaging 42 minutes means he would score at the end of the half. IMO, this show he should be on the field the entire game. I think now that he is fully healed, he should be able to come into next season ready to go.

To the point made on a different thread, Casey is our best forward and should have a starting spot in next year's lineup at the beginning of the season. In other words, don't trade Casey for a perceived higher value.

I think the numbersw show that there is no knock. Doc had a feeling about Casey only scoring early in his games then fading out of the game. The numbers show that isn't the case.

That was my point, and I still somewhat disagree. Casey scored 6 goals in the final 5 games, after only 5 goals in the prior 16 games, including an 8 game stretch right before the final 5 when he only scored twice, both in 1 game. If you think the 6 goals in 5 game or 11 goals in 21 game average is sutainable then yes, the's a lock for a starter. If you think that something closer to a 5 goal in 16 game average is more likely then trade him while he looks good. I believe when looking at Casey's career, particularly his injury history, he's more likely to be closer to a 5 goals in 16 game average than a 11 goals in 21 game average.

Your argument is strong unless, of course, Casey has found himself, his injuries are a thing of the past and/or he gets better service. If he duplicates either 5/16 or 11/21 he would still have rated a top 10 goal scoring performance. In 30 MLS games 5/16 = 9.375 goals scored which would have dropped him 1 place from 7th to 8th in MLS. Whereas 11/21 = 15.714 goals scored which would have elevated him 4 places to 3rd behind only Donovan & Cooper. In any case he is one of the likely bright spots for the Rapids future.
