Ah, I am torn on this one. I am both a Man U and Metro supporter. I want Howard to be able to put his talent to the best use but I also want MLS to find ways to keep its top players. If this is true I think its a no-brainer that Howard goes but I think it would be a shame to see him play second fiddle to Fabien Barthez who I think is enormously overrated. Who does Metro bring in if they lose Howard?

Who's the Metros' backup keeper anyway? Howard, if not too intimidated by the surroundings, would beat out Barthez by October, November at the latest. (I say after gazing at my crystal ball and at Barthez' waistline.) Man U would probably want him while the U.S. was in the Gold Cup also.

Believe me, if Tim Howard sells for millions, the Metros will have a nice allocation and a ton of cap room to "do better" than Pat Onstad (who Frankie Yallop very much wanted to play for the Quakes). And Tim, you have provided a vast number of idiot theories about how the Metros are scamming the league that have been laughed right out. Better yet, you have made a ton of predictions about how the Metros will get piles of favors, and they haven't come true. One would think with a track record as weak as yours, you would finally just shut up. I suppose you're counting on no one remembering how wrong you have been. Well here it is: you have zero credibility. If the Metros get a good goalkeeper to replace a goalkeeper they identified, scouted, trained, and sold for a ton of money, they deserve it.
anyone else find it funny that Tim Howard would be the 'understudy' of Barthez. I don't exactly think that's the guy you want grooming keepers. Good luck for Timmy though. He desirves a shot to go over seas, and I'd love to see him playing for man u.

What a sorry prediction. Like I said, if Howard leaves, then the Metros will have a ton of allocation money and a ton of salary cap room with which to replace him. They're not going to be relying on Paul Grafer, and they're not going to get jacked for a trade for a second-string keeper. And if Howard has to wait until his Hungarian passport allows him to play in England, the Metros will have him at the end of this season-- giving them the whole winter to find a new GK. If the Metros are gonna be hurting, it'll be when TH is off for the Confederations and/or Gold Cup. I didn't think much of Grafer at the end of last year, but he remains the only Metro keeper to win a playoff series. Fine with me, we'll lose a few games in June and July and have Howard back to win the league before he goes off to England.
I wouldn't be shocked if the MetroStars acquired Joe Cannon without using their Howard allocation and then saved the allocation for a field player.
SJ will still have his rights if he wants to come back this season so NY would have to trade for those if they lose Howard and want him.
